I had an ADT security installed in my house after my car was stolen out of my driveway. I was promissed all nine yards, and life time warranty, after calling ADT 800 #, when I scheduled the installation date and time. The installer shows up to my house in grad prix car, no adt logo on his car as I ws expecting an ADT van than we normally see. I called ADT before allowing entry of the person, they said he is our agent from Defender Security, completely a different co. He install that system, after about 10 hrs, he sign the contract, handed to me to sigh, it was all kind of charges that was never discussed, called ADT 800, resolved some of it, and signed it. The guy fills up the survey and have sign it. I thought the service was very un-proffesional, and I was told than I can cancel in 3 days.

I called ADT to cancel in 2 days, they told that I am a defebder security customer for one year before, I can become an ADT customer. they transfered me to them, as Defender told, sorry but you cannot cancel the contract. Going furthur, I wanted to install a 2nd wireless panel, by the front door. I call ADT, get transfered to Defender, price of panal is $241, I found the exact panel from GE web site for $99, with full programming instrucion, however, the alarm system, is set with an installer passwrod, that prevent you from adding any more items. They charge $125 for the 1st 15 minutes, and $50 for every additional and I paying $42/mo fee. I also found out that the system is not life time warranty as promissed. Here is the scary thing, they are the only one who has the installer passwrod, and if not one get it, they can come to your house and disabl the alarm. My issue with them was, that zi should be the only one who know the the password, just like atm card, to really feel protected. I should be shown to add any item needed.

I am an electrical engineer, in robotic systems, customer is entitled to know all the ins and out of his system once I install their system. Watch who you are dealing with, they are not really protecting, they are in for the business. NO one should have the password of the system but the customer just like atm and credit cards pins.

Concerning Installer Password

AUTHOR: Peter_j_weller - Arvada (U.S.A.)

The Installer password on a security system can arm a system however it cannot disarm a security system. The reason why security companies do not give out installer passwords is that their insurance and liability to the customer will not allow this. Sorry to say this but it protects us from us so we do not change data which is required to transmit to the central station.
