On 7/15/09 I responded to an e-mail I had received from Choice Home Warranty offering a special price.
I called CHW and talked to Mr. Kevin Michaels regarding my coverage. CHW is similar to American Home Shield offering protection on household items and components by either repairing or replacing them if they stop working.
We discussed my needs and he said he will be able to cover the items I wanted covered at a special price. In order to take advantage of this offer I had to "sing up" that day. I indicated that I was familiar with AHS and I would not sign up until I read Choice Home Warranty's contract and terms. He assured me they were nothing like AHS and said I could have 30 days to review their contract and if I was not satisfied I could cancel and get a full refund.
I received the contract and it covered items I did not have and those I wanted covered, were not. I called Michaels and he said to cover the items I wanted I would have to pay an additional $100. Since they were now changing our agreement I told Michaels I was cancelling my contract and asked for my full refund. I confirmed this by e-mail attaching it to his e-mail indicating the 30 days and full refund.
Once the credit was made they withheld $50 for administrative costs which they indicated I agreed to when I checked the "I accept" terms on the e-mail application. Since I did my application by phone and Michaels never mention any withholding, I was not aware of any charges.
My credit is still pending with my credit card company. The fact I have their statement in writing indicating I will get a full refund, I can only believe that I will have the charge reversed.
I strongly suggest if you want to still do business with a company like this, that you insist that you get everything in writing. Do not pay any money until you have read the entire contract and small print.
