The C.S.R.A. Group should be responsible for their franchises!

My husband and I purchased a repossessed manufactured home from Hinesville Housing in May of 1999. At the time we signed the contract, we were told our down payment would be $500.00. We paid this and our home was delivered in 2 weeks after numerous delays. When we did the final interview with GreenTree Financial, we were informed that our contract read that we had put $2100.00 down. We were then told that if we did not pay the difference, our home would be foreclosed upon. We went back to Hinesville Housing and was told that James Davis (who was the General Manager) no longer worked there and that we needed to go to the Hinesville Police Dept. and make a statement. Once we got to the Police Dept., we were informed that James was being investigated for fraud and embezzelment. The C.S.R.A. Group (which is Hinesville Housing's corporate office) sent a representative from Orangeburg, S.C. to close the lot down. When we questioned the rep about our difference in the contract, he informed us that since James no longer worked for them, they were not responsible for his actions. We were able to get the money for GreenTree in order to keep our home. We have been to 2 lawyers here in Hinesville and both of them told us that even though we had a case, The C.S.R.A. Group could afford to pay lawyers forever to keep our case in court. We have contacted the BBB in both S.C. and Ga. and we have also contacted the Ga. Dept. of Consumer Affairs with no results. Please help us get our money back that we had to pay GreenTree to keep our home!

UPDATE: On 11/29/99, we received a letter from the Governor's Office of Consumer Affairs in Georgia that they were turning the case over to the State's Attorney General in South Carolina. Hopefully, we are FINALLY getting somewhere with this!
