If you are an AARP member and hospitalized. If you are not a patient for over 24 hours they will not pay for self administered drugs they give you from aspirin through complicated and expensive drugs. After a Carotid Stent operation I had to pay for the drugs they handed me.

AARP IS A CROCK

AUTHOR: Laurie - Haslet (U.S.A.)

In spite of federal law that states if you have had previous medical insurance - YOU CANNOT BE TURNED DOWN FOR MEDICAL INSURANCE WITH ANOTHER CARRIER DUE TO PRE-EXITING CONDITIONS.

AARP -AETNA - Did just that - turned both my husband and I down for medical coverage because of pre-existing conditions. My husband is 59 and I am 49.

I contacted AARP about it and they did absolutely nothing to help.

I went with AARP AETNA because of our ages as well as pre-existing conditions.
AARP-AETNA only insures those people who have no medical conditions. Since as you age, you do end up with medical problems no matter how well you try to take care of yourself - They only insure those who do not have pre-existing conditions.
They will probably drop you if you get really sick!

And they have the gall to keep sending us information and encouraging us to sign up for the programs we have already been turned down for.

Faulty Logic

AUTHOR: Gripey Pants - Portland (U.S.A.)

This is the same logic that says if you need IV antibiotics after surgery that you:

1) Get the drugs covered, but not the supplies (tubing, alcohol pads, etc). It's kind of like giving you a car that "works" only to find out it doesn't have a gas tank or wheels.

2) If you decide to STAY IN THE HOSPITAL or go to a CARE FACILITY, which costs a huge amount more money, they will cover the meds and the supplies.

It's stupid math and costs you, and the insurance company, a lot of money to keep "thinking" this way about their policies instead of the most efficient way.
