This report is in regards to my experience from spending one night at the Best Western located at: 1534 Hwy 38 West Latta, SC 29565 March 5, 2009.

My husband and I have been married for 31 years and raised three sons, two of which live in New York. My youngest who aspired to further his career in the culinary world, made a trip to New York last month and was hired to work in a restaurant on Madison Ave. He flew home and hence came the preparations for his move to New York City.

My son and I left West Palm Beach, Florida March 1, 2009 and traveled all the way to Smithfield, NC and spent the night at a Best Western Hotel. It was an unusually clean room which I attributed most to the fact that it appeared to have recently been renovated. Regardless, it was quiet and the staff pleasant. I decided I would stay at another Best Western upon my return to Florida.

Since my son remained in New York, the return drive to Florida March 5, 2009 would be by myself. I drove from New York City to Latta, SC a total of 624 miles in one day. I stopped at the first Best Western after crossing the SC state line.

After checking in, getting something to eat, and adding air to my car's tires, I was ready to settle for the night. Ready in my night clothes, I go to the bed and pull the covers back and noticed that the top left portion of the fitted sheet was sliding halfway up the mattress, the way it looks when the pressure of a person has been applied. To confirm what I thought, I pulled the sheet further and noticed as I suspected, the sheets were wrinkled from someone else sleeping in the bed. I immediately got dressed and planned on packing and going to another hotel, but changed my mind and decided to stay because I was to tired after driving 624 miles alone in one day. I made the best of it by covering the entire bed with the topmost layer sheet, used the comforter to keep warm, and increased the temperature on the heater.

I researched the web and found that hotels try to save money on supplies by not changing sheets and towels every day; they are changed only if the room is being used by the SAME patron daily. Also, they are to only vacuum the carpet where people walk; the vacuuming job is not thorough, for it is not used everywhere, not even under the bed.

While I understand the need for saving money is important, the fact is that I paid $82.40 for one night to sleep on sheets someone else had already slept in.

Rebuttal To False Information Given about Best Western Executive Inn

AUTHOR: Rbacote - Latta (U.S.A.)

I would like to address the issue that was written by a prior guest that we do not change our sheets. This information is completley false. Anyone can look up our hotel and find that we a a 3 Diamond AAA hotel along with a award winning Best Western hotel. The day the guest stayed at our hotel we were having our inspection from Best Western Headquarters. Our rooms as well as our beds are inspected to check for any type of errors. The guest wrote a e-mail to the hotel stating that her sheets wasn't changed b/c when she got in the bed one side wasn't on tightly. That is no reason to accuse a hotel of not changing there sheets. However if the guest felt the sheets wasn't cleaned why didn't she call the front desk to inform them of this matter and change rooms ? The hotel wasn't full, this makes no sense to me or the staff. Yet the guest stayed in the room all night, slept in the bed and used the bathroom and all. Please note to all our loyal customers we change our sheets on a daily basic and we take pride in our hotel. Please remember we can't always believe everything we read that's negative.

What no call to the front desk?

AUTHOR: Ronnie - Raceland (U.S.A.)

Hummm interesting that Ms Maria did not call the front desk, when she discovered the sheet had slipped off the corner of the mattress. The question is why? Humm lets see,

"I go to the bed and pull the covers back and noticed that the top left portion of the fitted sheet was sliding halfway up the mattress, the way it looks when the pressure of a person has been applied."

So you dont think that it just may have slipped off the mattress? If you tought that someone else had sleep in the bed, you should have called down to the front desk and explain the situation. I am sure that they would have issued you another room to move into. And dont say that your were tired of driving and just wanted to get a good night sleep, and did not want to move into another room. But did you do that...NOPE...instead you snuggled yourself in a bed in which you stated that someone else sleep in.

So that just tells us that you just wanted to try and scam the property out of a free night. Did it work....I think NOT....Trying to pull off a scam and you not getting your free night is not a ripoff.

you have it backwards

AUTHOR: Debbie - Mount Vernon (U.S.A.)

Just think about what you said for one minute. Does it really make any since that they change the linens every day when its the same person staying in the room and dont change them when it's a new person? You have it backwards. Stayovers do not get their linens changed everyday unless requested. Linens are always changed in check outs.
