Property charged my account for an overnight stay after I cancelled in advance. I never set foot on the property, nor did I stay overnight.

Property manager implied that I never attempted to cancel, thus felt no obligation reverse the charge, whether or not I ever checked-in at this facility.

I requested two things for two weeks by e-mail, fax and letters through the postal service yet neither were provided. I asked that the billed amount be credited to my account or evidence in writing that any such billing would be incurred should I not check in on the assigned day.

Neither action took place.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Request fax, e-mail confirmation

AUTHOR: Alma - Menlo Park (U.S.A.)

How did you make your reservation, and how did you cancel it? By phone, on-line?

While there is no absolute sure defense against this kind of problems, but at least with "honest" hotels some paper trail could help.

If you make your reservation on-line, print out everything... NOT only the confirmation, but all the room rate, cancelation info you see during the process.

If you make the reservation on phone, ask for a fax/e-mail confirmation with cancelation rules.

If you cancel on phone, request FAX/e-mail confirmtaion of the cancelation.

IF you do not get the fax/e-mail, a warning, that you sent a copy of your cancelation to your credit card company - to prevent charges could help.

With REAL scumbags? Nothing could help....

Actually there is one way to strike back: go all the forum/web page where you can find feedback about the hotel, and share your bad experience.
Search for : hotel name+review.
