This company is nothing more than a bunch of thieves. When joining you are told you are signing up for a one year membership. What they don't tell you is that the membership automatically renews and there is no way to cancel it. The billing company they do business with ASF International, will continue to deduct dues from your checking account even after written and verbal requests are made to discontinue.

Do you self a favor and stay away. No truly reputable martial arts training facility will lock you into a contract. DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE ACCESS TO YOUR CHECKING ACCOUNT.

Alliance

AUTHOR: James - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, September 06, 2011

Check around, do searches.  There are MANY people who've had the same issues and posted about them.  Alliance employees go on sites, pose as students, and give positive accounts.  My question to a "satisfied student" would be this:  Why are you on a site called "rip off report" searching on this gym if you are truly a happy student?  Nice try though.

ASF

AUTHOR: delariva - (United States of America)

POSTED: Sunday, September 04, 2011

I have been a member since 2002.  I have had to stop my contract on two occasions.  Once being due to a move.  I sent a written notification with my new updated address and bank account information which was suffice to cancel my account.  When I returned to Atlanta three years later I signed back up and I had to stop contract again due to the recession which caused me to be unable to afford the membership.  I hit hard times right at the end of the contract so I just let Alliance know, and they themselves sent the request to ASF for me and it did not renew.  When I got my finance straight three months later, I signed back up again.  I have even had insuffiient funds in my account and Alliance adjusted my membership rate for the month to offset the fee that ASF charged for being insufficient.  Anyone who has had an issue either didn't read their contract, or didn't take the proper steps to cancel.  I've never had an issue in ten years and Alliance has always worked with me when I have had any issues.

Read the contract

AUTHOR: James - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, December 23, 2009

In response to the rebuttal above, I can say this:  I have my contract in front of me.  It states quite clearly that the contract can be cancelled after one year by written request.  I submitted two written requests and placed countless calls.  Both directly to the gym and to ASF.  I eventually had to close my checking account and file complaints with the state attorney general's office of consumer affairs and the BBB to stop the billing harassment.  Do yourself a favor, DON'T give the guys at Alliance Martial Arts any account information.  They will abuse it.

Read your contract

AUTHOR: Eric - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, August 25, 2008

I have been in martial arts for over 23 years. I even worked in one a long time ago. Many schools offer a month-to-month option as does Alliance Martial Arts Center. It usually does cost more per month to go month-to-month so many people opt for a longer term contract or agreement. Gyms and martial arts school can not debit or charge an account without permission. That is why it is very important to read the contract before signning it to see what the terms are. Any automatic renewals are stated in the contract, as they are for Alliance Martial Arts Center. The steps to cancle the contract and stop auto-renewal are also clearly stated in the contract. The process to stop it is usually something simple like writting a letter to the billing company.

Many times people feel ripped off by gyms and martial art schools but what it usually comes down to is that they did not read their contract - the contract that they agreed to honor when they signed it. This means that they also agreed to the terms for cancellation. If the terms say you must submit a letter, then email , phone call, or personal conversation will not do. You must submit a letter.

It is important that members and potential members understand that they must read, understand, and ask questions about contracts before they sign. Their signature says that they did all these things. Therefore, a member can not blame the martial arts school or gym for their negligence.
