When my mother passed away 9/28/13 I inherited her computer and she had an existing Avast! paid anti-virus account.  She also had a free Avast! account which caused some problems as they appeared to work against each other (according to their support people).  Anyway, in March 2014 I called Avast! and spoke to "Maria" who found my mother's existing account and agreed to transfer the remaining life of the subscription to my email, etc.  In addition, she said she would transfer me to support because it looked like there were many updates/problems, etc.  So I had to agree to pay $179 for a year's support before she would even transfer me to them.  It felt like I was between a rock and a hard place so I agreed.  She and Support were very nice and it took Support about a couple of hours to fix my issues.  I know enough to know there were issues because I watched a great deal of it on the screen.  Everything was fine until about a week ago when I suddenly began getting pop-ups telling me my subscription had expired and would I like to renew.  I called them only to find out you can't EVER talk to anyone-you have to fill out a Support Ticket.  I did and they responded that they couldn't find my mother's subscription and they requested her original invoice number.  Well, she's gone so I don't have it and I told them I'm not stupid--I would not have paid $179 for a year of support if "Maria" hadn't found it to begin with.  They didn't have any documentation of my conversation with Maria and, sadly, neither did I (pretty stupid of me).  I asked that they elevate this matter to a supervisor and I was flat out ignored.  I'm so frustrated and wanted to report them to someone.  The internet needs the equivalent of the BBB because this sort of thing shouldn't be tolerated.  I'm out the $179 to their benefit and  I can't even find an available email to really give them a piece of my mind (Vincent Steckler, CEO!).  I finally re-signed with Webroot and erased Avast! from my computer.  I hope to never hear of them again unless someone takes them down!  They are a total ripoff in the true sense of the word.

Beware Avast!, matey!
