Well, as many others that I read here, I went in for the two step interview at Bernard Haldane and Associates.

The interview was slick, and they did a very good job talking up my strengths, while also preying on the fact that I was out of work.

The "Senior Consultant" interviewing me was very nice, right up until we started to talk about financing. I had asked 4 times previous, including right up front during the first meeting about price. Now she was ready to spring the $6,100 contract on me.

I told her right there that I would not be able to afford it and my answer was "No." She then got real upset and forceful. I got up to leave and she told me to sit there and listen to her. I should have left right then.

Now she started the badgering. How much money was I losing per month when I was unemployed. I told her it didn't matter... I don't have the money!! I'm 27, with a new condo and I am unemployed. I don't know many 27 year olds that can pull up $6,100 + Tax just like that.

Now she started with the deals. I would have 23 days to come up with the additional funds. Look at how much I am losing. Look at how much happier you will be. Now I find out from this website and others that it is just a resume service.

So now I said that I wanted to take the contract and review it with my parents, and take the time to arrange for the financing. I was told that I was being stupid, and that I could not take the contract with me, and it would be a shame since I should get started on Monday morning.

So, unfortunately, I signed. Now, unless I can get them to cancel the contract, I am out $1,200 in deposit and need to find some way to come up with another $5,100 in 23 days. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid.

First thing tomorrow morning I will be at their front door. I will advise you in how it goes. If they are at all reputable (although, from the other messages it looks like they are not) they will give back the money. If not, I will also be going to a lawyer and the local press.

Pond scum.... Money up front before any results occur

AUTHOR: Adoph - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, January 18, 2003

Chris, I agree with the entirety of your post. One must remember, however that Bernard (Hang 'em high) Haldane has a very enviable (from the standpoint of overall profit) procedure.

[1]Money up front before any results occur. I'm sure that's one of the main selling points when the home office trolls for these bottom-feeders to purchase the apparently popular FRANCHISES to open local offices.

[2]Ongoing basically worthless'training'for which their client inadvertaintly signs documents under totally false pretenses ultimately designed to negate the possibility of any refund.

[3]Totally worthless services" that are sold on a completely fradulent process rife with bogus claims..

[4]A totally uncaring scam resulting in a disgustingly uncaring ultimate "walkaway" response from the whole convoluted, stressful, dishonest quasi-legal totally unethical endeavor.

I suspect the pricipals in the currect Bernard Haldane corporate structure probably cut their teeth on early training by stealing from the Church poor box.

They display a like continuation of (lack of) business ethics and (lack of) compassion. The ultimate unwavering goal and result of their program is to, as quickly as possible, and by saying ANYTHING, suck the last remaining funds from the vulnerable unemployed. Uhhh...no funds? No problem!

You'll receive much encouragement to beg, borrow, max out charge cards, or whatever it takes to avail yourself of their (self expressed) VITAL SERVICES.

Responsibility

AUTHOR: Chris - (Canada)

POSTED: Friday, January 17, 2003

With respect to the rip-off issue in Ontario re: Haldane $ Associates. It is the responsibility of the recruiting company or agency to absorb the costs of any interview, resume or negotiation process involving their clients and future prospects. Whether you are a CEO or janitor your ability to absorb the costs as mentioned in the Kitchener incident should not be passed to the applicant but to the employer seeking the skill.

The individual cannot write off the expenses related to their career search and justify the expenses.

Therefore, the hiring agancy or headhunter as in this case should also includ their fees in assisting the client in their search for a successful candidate as the benifits to the employer are tenfold.

An example of proper proceduarl process in this line of work is Roevin Technical who pass the costs on to the employer whether through contract or permenant positions. The cost is never passed to the job seeker.

Thank You

With respect to the comments made by the individual from Ontario, I wish to thank him for forewarning all regarding involvement with Haldane and Associates. I had a set appointment with the Edmonton office and after reading this article I decided to telephone and ask if there are any related costs involved with the preliminary interview and in fact any association beyond the initial phase.

I of course left my question on voice mail in hopes of a response. Again due to the article I am now very dilligent insofar as contacting these headhunters. I will definately ask whether there are any costs involved with any interview process.I do hope that Ontario receives his pound of flesh!!!

Thank You
