i bought a new top of the line HP Computer Pavillion dv7-6b55dx Entertainment PC and purchaced the best warranty called black tie to cover me for 3 years. This computer was purchased at christmas 2011.

i had my computer guy hook it up Jan 8 2012. On my keyboard my letters are rubbing off example my T and my E is almost gone. I have to look at my keys when i type. I use this for personal use only and do not have nails that hit my key boead either.

i went to bestbuy told them of this problem and the geek squad tells me my warranty doesnt cover that yet it i drop it or break my computer they will give me a new one.

They told me that my keys have to be actually broken before my warranty will cover it. I was advised to break some of the keys for HP to replace my keyboard and then i would have to wait 6 weeks to get it back

This is not fair to me when i bought the best Hp computer they had to offer i paid quite  abit for it and purchased the best warranty they had to offer. I have bought other computers used them constantly and never has the letters rubbed off.

I am highly upset about this and HP's poor warranty policy. I have been told for years not to buy HP products now i see why. The reason i bought another HP computer was because this kind of thing never happened to me before.

Now im wondering when i have anothr problems with this computer if the warranty will even cover that. I also paid alot for that warranty. The warranty is Bestbuys warranty. Yet HP has a year warranty on it when i bought it and in 2 months this has happened.

I either want my money back or the warranty to cover another key board from who ever is responsbile HP or Bestbuy and i want my computer back ina week not 6 weeks. This is unethical.

I do not advise anyone to purchace HP Products especially from Bestbuy. It is also my understanding that i am not the only person that has had this problem with bestbuy on HP products.

She is too stupid to realize how obvious her BS is.

AUTHOR: Steve - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, March 27, 2012

From the "law school" hilarity to this latest "victory," the OP just cannot see how transparent her lies are to people with brain cells. It is sort of like trying to fake speaking a foreign language; it may sound all the same to the speaker, but is obviously fake to anyone that knows even a tiny bit of the language. It makes you wonder how many times she has been caught for lying; each time she must think the person that called her out was psychic or something.

Too many things just didn't add up with this whole report.

It appears that the OP is one of those types that can never be wrong and/or never lose.

The time frame doesn't add up at all, as I have done warranty returns with HP. It takes 2-3 weeks normally.

All of this over a $15-$20 item???

Nonsense.

Let's see..

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, March 27, 2012

How high we can make the BS Meter go.

First we have the "repair" of the computer.  The OP reported on the 16th that they were going to be sent a box, and on the 26th they reported that they received the new keyboard.  Now, anyone will realize that for a warranty repair this is "lighting speed", because with the time it would take to do 3 shipments(box for return, shipment to the repair center, and shipment from the repair center) in 7 business days, they could not have had the computer in their possession for more than a day or two at most, and I doubt that this OP got "priority" over anyone else.

If you could clarify something else as well.  When they returned your computer was it also new or was it just your keyboard that was new?  If the computer was also new can you explain how you handled the data transfer.

Also, what was the model number of the keyboard you sent out, what is the new model number?

I am so pleased announce that i did definately receive a new key board and HP honored my warranty and did agree i had a faulty Keyboard and replaced it with a new one with a different Seriel number and model number, Therefore as the representive said today i was provided a much better key board due to complaints from other consumers for the same issues . HP followed through. As for the useless comments regarding my complaint this just goes to show you know NOTHING about what you were talking about. You people must think before you post your worthless comments especially when you are clueless as to what the situation is and have not even seen the damage that was done. CASE CLOSED! (( Smiles))

"Therefore they will be sending a box for the computer to be shipped back and it will be replaced."

Of course, they are spending money on shipping/time/materials to send you... a box.

An empty box.

An empty box that you are supposed to put an entire computer into and send back to them, with them  paying the shipping for the computer to then be sent to them.

At which point they will pay for the shipping and restocking cost and whatnot to send a new computer back to you.

All to replace... the keyboard.

God, what a moron.

How far is Cummings, Georgia from Phenix City, Alabama?

Until this yutz started snorting about taking Best Buy to court, "because he could", I figured he had a legitimate gripe.
Granted, HP, keyboards are probably all crap now, as are most likely EVERY OEM keyboard packed with ANY brand computer.
And what the dad banged hell does Pest Buy have to do with replacing it?

Even if he has an extended warranty with them, HP's warranty in effect takes precedence until it expires, and he needs to deal with HP.

A store could do someone a favor and take care of the exchange, but they're not obligated to, especially when talked down to by a snot nose law student.

I agree with the poster who pegged this nut as a typical occupy idiot.

As for the moronic threat to sick Southern Chemical's boss on him, anyone with brains would assume that Mister Southern Chemical IS the boss! Why else would he use the company name as an ID?

Yo, law student! Why don't you do something useful and help beleaguered homeowners in your locale fight Ocwen and other predatory lenders trying to steal their homes, instead of belaboring over a stupid $5 keyboard?

to read your rebuttal, I did not understand why you are so straw man? Then, I am curious and search to see your computer model which is claimed to be a desktop. Using key words "HP Computer Pavillion dv7-6b55dx Entertainment PC" in Google search gave me tons of results as a laptop. Even I used "HP Pavillion dv7-6b55dx" as keywords, I still get the similar result. Also, the thing is also around $700 (back in Nov 2011) which is not that expensive (for me) even though I did not pay that much for any of my computer.

"the computer I am in reference too has only been used about 20 times. The rest of the time i am using a computer that i carry with me on a daily basis."

So I had to spend 12 bucks for an entirely new keyboard imagine that? I had to purchase a new one... no ...I was "forced" to by those Geek Squad Gestapos. I am devastated and humiliated. I am considering to notify the authorities and Attorney General after I annoy the crap out of the BBB. Who wants to join me in a class action lawsuit? "Unhappy Customer"  - do you have ANY idea how obvious it is to everyone that you are uneducated? There is no way - NO WAY - that anyone will believe you are in law school. In any event, keyboards are cheap, buy a new one if you cannot remember where the keys are.

Now I am not one of those "well you should have read the contract, it does not matter what the salesman says" kind of people; if a salesman misleads someone, that is a rip off (not every consumer is as legally savvy as you!). But in this case it is just a damned "key boead".

Oh, and call my HR department and tell them I am going to stop wearing pants to the office from now on.

To VoiceOfReason - no matter how bad a product is, buying the insurance is NEVER, EVER a good deal.  Best Buy's in particular gets a ton of complaints here (second only to Magic Jack), and should be avoided like the plague.

Your Legal Rights

AUTHOR: Paralegalhightower - (USA)

POSTED: Saturday, March 10, 2012

I have reviewed your complaint and find it with merit and deceitful. The reason why I find your complaint with merit is because you purchased a warranty and since there appears to be abnormal wear and tear for what ever reason you are requesting a replacement for defective workmanship.

What I find deceptive is best buy not honoring your competent rights as a consumer under warranty or contract and advising you to break, damage and or dismantle the equipment to be covered under their warranty. Again if you break, dismantle and or destroy equipment at their instuction it is at their discretion and they will have a right to refuse any or all repairs.

What you should do is file a complaint against best buy for breech of contract or consumer tort in the court of law and make sure you have objective and real evidence not subjective or speculative evidence so that any attorney representing best buy and or geek squad can not collaterally attack your credible claim with merit pertaining to consumer fraud.

An example would be a doctor arriving at the scene of an accident and noticing serious but minor injuries, if that doctor fails to offer or administer triage then that doctor is liable in the court of law for negligence especially if the person has full insurance coverage.

Now do you comprehend?

I am currently in Law School and have read my warranty completely also you must know that the computer I am in reference too has only been used about 20 times. The rest of the time i am using a computer that i carry with me on a daily basis. So you are very wrong and i disagree with you. As i stated I have owed HP and Dell computers for years and had them for years never once have i ever encountered a problem like this. Maybe you have but I have no doubt that anyone on their right mind that has made a purchase as large as i have and to have issues like this would feel the same way as i do. So that is your opinion and I have the proof there is a huge difference there. Also I do feel that HP Products are poorly made and not of the same quality as they were 10 years ago. I know i have always used HP products. Also I am highly intelligent and i know exactly how my warranty reads so do not even try to insult my intelligence. It will not work. the letters wearing off the keys?

Is it covered? If it IS, insist they replace it, if NOT and it's that critical to you, buy a new one, but there's no guarantee it won't do the same thing.

Will you want another replacement in another couple of months when the same thing happens?

When I took typing class (MANY years ago) the instructor would cover the keyboard characters to force us to use the touch typing method.  A little frustrating at first, but it helped in the long run.

My Dell keyboard has several letters worn off, but it works just fine.

I have numerous keyboards, all ranging in price from $9 to $100 and none of them have lost the letters.

Mocha gave sage advice

AUTHOR: voiceofreason - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 07, 2012

Don't make a battle of this at this point. It won't be worth it. Just sticker or write the letters back with a marker.

Also, despite what many say, with good reason, about extended warranties being worthless, especially Best Buy's, given the reliability issues reported with HP pcs, you may well have need to fall back on that warranty before December 2014, assuming Pest Buy remains in business that long.

Familiarize yourself now with all the written terms of that warranty, and the company who administers it (assuming Best Buy is not the administrator).

Make sure you have good backup, at least 2 external drives capable of holding all necessary files, and setup files needed to restore added on programs. All the better if at least 1 backup drive for files is a flash drive.

Back up as often as you need to, daily if necessary. You never know when an HP pc will totally fail, but odds are it will without warning at some point.

If you ever do need to have the Geek squad do anything to it, you cannot depend on getting anything back on your pc drive, no matter what you tell them or they tell you.

Sorry

AUTHOR: MochaG - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 07, 2012

I am sorry to hear about your frustration. I guess you have to look back at the contract (warranty) about what are covered. I am quite sure that all of them will not cover the keyboard's letters because functionality wise it is still working. The warranty usually covers only if a user can no longer use it any more.

Letters on most keyboard would come out/disappear easily. That's why keyboards are so cheap nowadays. I bought one for $3 and it is still good, but my 'E' letter disappears within a month. The previous one I had before this one, I bought it for $11 and some letters also disappeared within a month or two.

I agree that the advise that the guy at Bestbuy told you to break one of
