This is a rebuttal of the “Ripoff” report filed by Jake Vorberg. I have all emails and text messages with Jake and I will gladly make them available to anyone interested, read them and then read his report and you will see that Jake is a liar.

I met Jake Vorberg after I responded to an ad of him looking for a person to develop the “backend” of a Web application. I have never gotten involved with random people from the Internet but decided to give it a try as a way to keep updated with emerging technologies and perhaps make a little money. At the time I engaged with Jake Vorberg I was waiting to begin a new job as an International Technical Sales Manager for a US manufacturer, the job was to start in 8 weeks, after the end of the company’s fiscal year. Earlier in my career I worked as a Web developer (I am an Engineer) and decided it would be fun to use those 8 weeks to engage in a side project with some potential. It would also give me the opportunity to practice some technical skills and satisfy my entrepreneurial spirit.

Jake said that he could have the “front end” of the Web application (a call analytics application) ready in two weeks. I noticed he was very young (he is 22) but since I, at that age, had already designed database-driven systems and already been making money as a Web designer (that’s how I paid for school) decided to give him a chance.

After a few weeks, it became obvious that Jake had no idea of how to work on a project or how to be a part of a team. His design skills were lacking much and there were many excuses. In his complaint, he says that I resigned after he was unavailable for “only” 3 days. After working on this for about 6 weeks, and after Jake not even producing 1 single Webpage, he decided to disappear, for longer than 3 days- again I have all emails and text messages for you to see-, and I decided to put an end to it. Any professional developer reading this would probably think I’m making this up because taking 6 weeks to produce a simple “dashboard” or start page for a Web application is inconceivable, especially if all you are doing is the graphics, no back-end code at all; I have the messages and emails to show it was so!

Jake then decided to block me out of the server and keep my work for himself, raising a red flag. This looked very much as a scam, where he would keep the code I had written and perhaps sell it or use it as his own. I had to raise a Copyright complain (DMCA) with the hosting company and have them remove my files because after days of asking Jake to do so (I emailed him once every day, send him a message once every day for a week) he would not respond. Login in to a server and deleting a file takes only 2 minutes. I suppose now, based on his report, that he was giving me the cold shoulder?

The decision to stop working with him was based on his constant excuses, lack of will to learn and work hard, his arrogance, and the lack of communication. Not on his lack of technical skills (I would have gladly taught him anything we wanted to learn about), but on his lack of motivation to improve and complete his work. He is still a kid, but engaging in a professional project by lies and misrepresentation (he did not have the skills he said he did) and then showing lack of motivation and lack of enthusiasm to learn is no way to conduct yourself.
