In July 2009 I traveled from Baton Rouge to San Diego on Continental Airlines.  I checked one bag.  I got home late and waited till the next morning to unpack.  When I did unpack, Several items were missing from suitcase including an iPod.   I filed a claim.  4 weeks later I was sent a letter stating they do not reimburse for electonic items and in order for my claim to be "valid" it needed to be reported w/i 4 hours of landing!

Continental basically encourages their employees to steal because they refuse to take any responsibility for it.

I'll update you with this fact. I fly Continental all the time, just a platinum start alliance elite with a mere 600 thousand mpy. Continental is my airline of choice and i believe has much higher standard than US Airways and does not come close to the customer service. I speak for myself atleast. Perhaps you shouldn't fly continental and stick with US Airways. Simply search US Airways on this site and you'll see for yourself that theres approximately 4 times more complaints then there is to Continental sweetie.

"They stole the items" is very common to say when a person doesn't accept responsibility of their own mistake. An iPod stolen? Only a person on a low budget would possibly post something this ridiculous. No airline what so ever will cover for electronics past 4 hours of landing; do your research. Continental will not take responsibility for your stupidity and thats where this ends. You're the loser. Now cry me a river.

Trying to hide your dirty little secrets?

How is it that I can fly over 150,000 miles a year on US Airways and they never lose my luggage and nothing as ever been missing from it and I fly less than 50,000 miles on continental and not only am I missing articles, they have completely lost my luggage!

They stole the items and are not willing to take responsibility for it.  By the way, how would you know it was a cheap ipod unless you took it??

I'm curious as to what solid evidence you have to say that Continental employees steal? Has anyone ever told you to keep valuables with you at all times? All bags are pre-screened and randomly checked by TSA before they get in the airplanes, ask anyone. Also CBP (customs border patrol) randomly check bags. So theres that possibility that perhaps either one of those could have stole your cheap iPod. If you read your ticket jacket where the agents placed your boarding pass in or read the baggage policies before you traveled, then maybe you wouldn't have posted this. You're simply angry at your own mistake and to relieve your anger, you decide to blame it all on continental employees. Put yourself in their shoes.

You should always carry valuables, jewelry, small electronic equipment, and cameras with you in your carry on. Everyone has access to your checked luggage and you will never know who may have stolen your IPod. Next time take it in the cabin with you. The airlines all recommend this.

Here is your problem..

You have no proof as to who is responsible.  Because not only does Continental handle your bags, they may contract out to outside companies, not to mention TSA employees.

By the way no Airline will reimburse for Electronic or other items of value.  An iPod is small and there is no reason you should not have been able to carry that with you ON the plane.  If you read the Conditions of Carriage you will see there is a lot that they won't cover.
