My name is DeAnn and I live in California. I changed cable service a few months ago from Direct TV to a company that is cheaper. I closed my account with DTV around February 9th this year and they debited my bank card twice on April 22nd, without my knowledge or permission for $536.00 and $147.00.  I have been awaiting a financial aid dispursment for college so when I checked my bank account on  May 1st, I saw that Direct TV stole all of it except for $10! I immediately called DTV to find out what was going on. I asked to speak to a supervisor and I was told no. I was told that if I went back to them they would credit my service for $240.00 to use towards future bills, but that they could not refund my bank account. I was told that they would refund the $147.00 after they recieve the cable boxes. I told them I had been waiting on the boxes they were supposed to send me so that I could return them since I stopped service with them back in Feb. I was told they were sent to me in March. I let them know that I never recieved the boxes and their response was for me to check with my post office because FedEx probably dropped them off there if I wasn't home. They are not going to resend the boxes, so I guess I have to pay to have the cable boxes sent back myself. They have no intention of giving me any money back. I filed a claim with my bank so I'll see what happens. By the way I did let DTV know that the money they took without my permission was money for college and they did not care. They actually told me that it was my personal problem. I told them I would be contacting a lawyer and hung up. I just can't believe that  DTV thinks they have the right to take money from someone else's bank account without their permision.

Stacey, No, I did not have a two year contract with them. I actually went through a contractor when I ordered service and was told that after a year I would be able to disconnect service. I was also told that my price would not change if I stayed with them which of course was not true. I was charged for all premium channels for 2 months after cancelling them twice. And even though there was a record of my calls to cancel, I was told I could not get a credit for the charges. It was a huge pain to deal with them. It doesn't matter whether I had a contract or not. Right is right and wrong is wrong. Direct TV debited my bank account without my knomwledge or permision.
