I rented a mini vans at the las vegas terminal Dollar RAC.  A young male agent at the counter helped us out by telling us first that we should hurry because there aren't many minivans left in the lot - it was a 3 day weekend in February and lots of activities happening all over las vegas.  He seemed so courteous and said he would help us get thru the paperwork as quickly as possible so we could get downstairs.  We showed him our reservations and he asked if I wanted to take the insurance, I said no.  He proceeded to help me respond to the questions on the electronic pad all the while I tried to read the questions but the screen is blurry & there's a bad glare on the pad.  I'm also tired from the overnight flight & naively trusted that this agent would help us complete the paperwork correctly since he asked more than once and i told him while i was punching the electronic pad that i hope i was punching the right response.

Off i went after i signed the contract.  After returning the van, got home after a 5-1/2 hour flight, guess what, we got charged the insurance for 5 days.  Tried calling & emailing Dollar RAC's customer service to get the charge corrected.  The agent on the phone said she would file a report & it may take 7-14 days for a response.  When i asked why it would take that long, she said they have to pull paperwork & pull video to see what transpired.  I got an email in 1 business day declining my request for a refund.  Tried explaining to customer service what the dishonest employee did and she did not offer to refund the insurance charges.  These employees are given incentives/bonuses for selling these insurance products - are they licensed to sell or even talk about insurance products?

I've only used Dollar RAC this one time and i do not intend to ever rent from Dollar RAC again.  I would appreciate getting my money back & a response from Dollar RAC that they have looked into the matter seriously.  A follow up letter explaining that they have investigated the employee and this is the corrective action we've taken.  It appears from other reports on several websites that this is a common problem.  Companies with good character will stick around for a long time.  I respect businesses that honor their service & products.  I believe many of us are more than willing to pay a little more to do business with companies that do the right thing the right way.   Doing things the right way saves me time & makes me feel a lot better about myself.
