I also was "suckered in" by coupons from Eyeglass World. (2 pairs for $69) I consider myself a fairly intelligent aware person, so I fully expected that my total would end up being more than $69. Of course as expected, the "2 for $69" was only if you chose the large plastic kids frames.

However, I am ashamed to admit that by the time my order was completed, I had a bill for $166. That may not sound like much, but all I went in for were simple single vision reading glasses. I had actually started to the door, but came to my senses and turned around.

I told them I did not want to pay that much for glasses, and I wanted to cancel my order. The "manager" immediately offered to change my order to just 1 pair for $69.00. (I was having the lenses put into my old frames) At this point, I had a tired crying baby on my hands, so I reluctantly agreed.

By the time I went in the next day to pick them up, I was good and mad. Here they were offering 2 pairs of glasses in their cheap frames for $69, but if I provided the frames, I could only get 1 pair for $69. To make matters worse, when I got there, the "manager" (different from the one I spoke to the day before)told me the glasses would actually be $79 for the one pair.

To make a long story short, after much discussion with her, she finally agreed to do 1 pair in my old frames and 1 pair in their cheap plastic frames for a total of $69. I figured I could leave the plastic frames at work for an emergency pair. I was feeling pretty good about my accomplishment until it came time to get credit for the price difference.

Although the local Eyeglass World is perfectly capable of immediately putting through the charges to your account, they are not allowed by "corporate" to process any refunds or credits. It has to go to the corporate office and they put it through.

The full charge of $166.42 was taken out of my account 2 days after I was there, but that was 4 weeks ago, and I still do not have my credit. After calling the local store 3 times, and being told each time they would contact corporate to straighten it out and someone would get right back with me - nothing had happened - not even a call back.

The next time I called and just asked for the corporate #. I called them 2 times, and both times was sent to a voice mail. I left a very detailed message both times - and never heard back -imagine that! I just called the local store again today (Saturday). I spoke with the manager, and told her that either I hear from someone by Monday telling me the credit has been put through or I go to our local news station "trouble shooters" program.

When I mentioned the Wave3 Trouble Shooters she very quickly assured me that "Oh no, you don't need to do that, I will get it taken care of" - WE'LL SEE!

I wish I would have seen this website prior to going to Eyeglass World. I will never use them again, and will tell everyone I know not to use them.

I will follow up to report if and when I get the credit!

Eyeglass World Louisville KY Ripoff Update

AUTHOR: Teresa - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 03, 2006

I finally did receive the credit that Eyeglass World owed me. It took approximately 7 weeks and numerous calls to the store and to the corporate offices. I was finally able to connect with a sympathetic employee (who isn't even supposed to be dealing with these types of issues) that was willing to stay on it until I got my credit. I wish I could give this person credit, but it could jeoporadize their job. How sad is that!? Rather than rewarding employees for excellent customer service, they stand to be disciplined.

Even though the credit was finally put through, it has still been one big ripoof. The first time I wore the glasses that were made in their frames, the ear piece fell off! As a comparison, I have had my other frames for over 6 years now, and they have never fallen apart. The glasses they made for me out of my old frames are still together, but I am having trouble seeing properly out of them. I am pretty sure the prescription is wrong. I am going to go to an independent optician and have them checked.

After I thought back on the whole scheme, Ii realized that they never fitted me for my glasses at all. When I went to pick them up, the person at the front desk just handed them to me, and said "here you go". In retrospect, they probably do not have nayone qualified to fit glasses. I do not understand how they are staying in business. I guess they get just enough "first time suckers" like me to keep them going. I also don't understand their business philosophy. Even a first semester MBA student would know better than to run a business like they do.
