TO ALL GEICO AUTO INSURANCE POLICY HOLDERS:

Please send an email message or letter to GEICO Auto Insurance Company to protest them doing business with National Magazine Exchange in Clearwater, Florida! Go to the website, www.geico.com and login, click on contact us. Ask them to please send your response to the Corporate Office and to the people who make advertising decisions.

There is no sense in a good company like GEICO doing business with scam artists. My husband and I have been GEICO customers for over 6 years. I am very pleased with GEICO, and I must say they offer better emergency road service than AAA at a much cheaper price. I am asking all satisfied GEICO customers to protest their affiliation with National Magazine Exchange.

If you are not familiar with National Magazine Exchange, go and read the large amount of complaints against them. They are forbidden from doing business in several states, and they have been fined $25,000 by the US Department of Justice.

A family member is a former employee of National Magazine Exchange aka Special Data Processing, Inc. What they do is send you an urgent mail piece saying Second notice we are trying to reach regarding your one million dollars sweepstakes ID#_______. Please call 1-800-235-6247 as soon as possible. Blah blah blah Sincerely, Pat Haines, Sales Representative (really the owner's mother). Then things get really heated once they get you on the line:

Sweepstakes Entry Center. May I have your ID number, please? Is this ______? Hi, my name is ________ and I'm really glad you called today, because I have some very important information to share with you about our One Million Dollar Strike It Rich Sweepstakes. For accuracy, this conversation may be recorded.

______, by calling in today, it's possible your sweepstakes ID could be selected in the Strike It Rich Sweepstakes with a bonded One Million Dollar guaranteed prize. As always, there is no purchase or payment required to enter or win any of the sweepstakes we offer. This is just our way of saying thank you for being a preferred credit card holder. You do still carry a Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express, right?

The so called Supervisor is nothing but a verifier who would like very much to have your credit card number or your checking account number. Once that is in their greedy little hands it will cost you a bundle of money for magazines you most likely would rather not have. (Approximately $300.) The Better Business Bureau would have you to believe that National Magazine Exchange has complaints against them but they have all been satisfied which is complete nonsense. I cannot understand for the life of me why GEICO would do business with known scam artists. You don't want your car insurance prices to rise do you? GEICO doing business with National Magazine Exchange aka Special Data Processing might just make it happen!

To Stephanie, sorry if you consider plain truth plainly stated to be "rude". Guess you can only dish it out but can't take it. I revile political correctness almost as much as I revile sanctimonious, pseudo-corrupt companies and their boot licking apologists, who skate the edge of legality posing as blameless victims of an overly harsh group of consumers on a pro consumer website. Also that "Code of Ethics" should be called "Code of Relative Ethics" any company that treats its employees in such a way cannot lay claim to any form of ethics. If you consider SDP, the revolving door company of Tampa Bay that actually boasts that their average employees last only 42 days to be a REAL job, you must live a sheltered life.

I agree SDP may not always be the fairest to employees,they fire much to easily and have a strict code of ethics and many rules. However we are very good to our customers. We offer a huge value that is 100% legit and that was the topic of discussion at hand. I am very sorry for you if you were fired for one reason or another and this is why you express a great deal of anger but you don't have to take it out on innocent people.

And yes I do have a real job,that I work very hard at during my real life,that pays me really well.This obviously angers you so you feel you must throw cheap shots at myself and other sdp employees.

I will not be responding again to your rude insults or fruitless accusations against myself or the company I work for so calm down and take a breath of fresh air. Have a great life.

"We are in full accordance with all state and federal laws." You are incorrect or ill informed.

Get your facts correct Stephanie. SDP was fined half a million dollars late last year for violating FTC regulations in connection with its "up sells". This is primarily why your medical benefits dissappeared. The FTC conviction then resulted in the termination of the One Switch Department when the U.S. Postal Service abruptly cancelled their 5 year contract with SDP through Imagitas, and that was the most honestly run department in the company. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot, this will result in the loss of several MILLION dollars of revenue to the company. So look for another one of their famous "pay plans that you will absolutely love" in the very near future. How's the extra hours lately Stephanie? Don't think Bill Hood will trade his Lexus down to a KIA in the near future. (By the way did you know he owns the building you work in personally?) The company is also being heavily investigated by the State Attorney Generals offices in several states, including an on going investigation here in Florida. This is for violation of the telemarketing laws in their states including "no rebuttal" laws in at least nine states. Many of the rebuttals you are required to use are incomplete, non-responsive, misrepresentative or evasive. If you don't use them word for word and actually tell the customer the truth that yes, they can cancel, or that they can subscribe to a one year package or that the real reason for signing the confirmation letter is not only to get that 25 cent watch, but to commit them legally to the magazine contract; you will be written up by the QD department and your job threatened (not that that would be such a big loss). There are also at least two Class Action suits in the pipeline which much more to come. What many of you company apologists and toadied do not realize is that it takes in some instances YEARS for these situations to be resolved. Which is why the FTC fine came last year for company sins of the late 90's. Think I am exaggerating? Check out what happened in Oregon a few years ago and why SDP does no business there.

The rest of your tome is much on the money Stephanie, the sweepstakes is legitimate, the package is fairly priced and a canny consumer can get a great deal. So why, why, WHY not be honest in the sales process. It makes as much sense as Nixon sanctioning the Watergate break in when he already had the election won. Now, to give you the benefit of the doubt, none of the salespeople are informed in training of these irregularities, so you are acting in good faith out of insufficient information. HOWEVER, the telemarketing laws in the State of Florida are written in such a way as to make each individual telemarketer INDIVIDUALLY and PERSONALLY LIABLE for EACH violation of the law. Every single telemarketer in SDP is registered with the state. NOW YOU KNOW, so you can now go one step further and do your own research and confirm what I have said. You can dismiss me as an "ex-employee with a chip on his sholder", you can take your own stand or continue to be an a*s-kisser in exchange for an ever dwindeling paycheck in a "profession" reviled by the public. Go get a real job.

I missed something. The original post says GEICO is using National Magazine Exchange. How or why? I guess I've never seen any connection between the two? Is this is ads? I am out of the mainstream on this.

It feels so good ................... to finally get a good night's sleep and not to work for a wishy washy company. I don't think the company was sneaky with customers, but sneaky with the employees. You never knew when Black Monday would come again! I agree with David, yes there are bad apples , as with any company, and yes they get fired.......... I agree with Lucy also! The company as a whole is very sneaky.

I sympathsize with anyone who succumbs to anykind
of scam but like the saying goes "there's a sucker born every minute."

I don't begrudge Geico associating with whoever
it choses to, its a free country.
Being an informed consumer is the best way to fight anykind of scam.

I find americans on the whole to be too trusting
and always looking for something free or a deal
thats too good to be true.

If I received such a letter it would go into the circular file in 2 seconds.

Advice for weepstake junkies.
Everytime you sign up for a sweepstakes etc. your name goes on the sucker list.

David,

How long have YOU been working for Special Data Processing, Inc? I worked for them in the early 90's and my husband worked for them in "sometime" in 2004. I did not "manage" to find the script. I know it to be a FACT. Why don't you tell the nice people here how SDP REALLY treats their employees? The goal is 24 sales a week... but wait... you have to convert 5% of ALL calls to sales/ups or you are put on a Personal Improvement Plan. You have one month to convert ALL calls to 5% sales/ups. It makes no difference if my husband had anywhere between 24-32 sales a week. No sir, that doesn't mean crap to SDP. They are so greedy that now they have to impose other restrictions.

I also had the privilege of going to St. Petersburg College with many FORMER SDP employees in 2002, as a matter of fact, almost half the class were former SDP employees. They are honest and decent people. I already knew how bad SDP was, firing employees who were with the company for 3 years right before their vacations were scheduled so they would not have to pay them for it.

When I worked for them in the early 90's, if we got 24 sales a week they were perfectly happy and treated us like gold. I knew Pat Haines personally, because at that time she was involved with the company. She is not just a marketing name SDP uses, she is one of the co-founders of SDP. Then they became HUGE... and all that went down the tubes really fast. I also worked for them in their Payroll Department as a Temp for a few months and I was fired for refusing to lift a heavy file box when I am on doctor's restrictions to lift no more than 10 pounds.

Would you like to know where I originally injured my back? SDP!!!! They caused my husband and I to be homeless denying my worker's compensation claim for 8 weeks. My lawyer shot them down like a lightening bolt. I have gotten tens of thousands of dollars from SDP for back injuries. Now I am disabled and ONLY in my early 40's.

Don't you tell me David ANYTHING about SDP because I have known all about them for over 12 years now. They have a permanent booth at the unemployment office. Their turnover rate is the highest in Pinellas County. They are constantly hiring leeches like you to do their dirty work for them.

If you can sleep at night that is fine, but my husband and I have higher morals for ourselves. So my husband quit and didn't say anything to them. GOOD RIDDANCE! I was tired of him reciting the script in his sleep. It became sickening. I was tired of this Personal Improvement Plan to do your best and then do better.

Their motto:

"Do your best and then do better." ROFLMAO!

I had worked all my life since I was 14 which spans almost 30 years before I became disabled. Not one employer has ever told me to do my best and then do better. That is only for greedy companies like SDP who are scam artists. They were fined by the US Department of Justice and are forbidden to do business in several states.

You David, are plain out stupid if you think SDP is a good company with morals. You are just in it for the big bucks. Let's face it, $5,000 in less than 2 months is good money for someone who is just two semesters away from his college graduation at SPC. (I am speaking of my husband.) But to us, it was no longer worth the harassment of doing your best and then doing better. You are an SDP Puppet. You are materialistic, my husband and I are not. He did it to keep us from being homeless.

As a GEICO policyholder for almost 7 years I hate my Auto Insurance Company doing business with the likes of SDP. I will further my cause until GEICO stops doing business with SDP!!!! I do not give a hoot about Qwest Communications, because they are probably just as bad as SDP. I don't know and I don't care. But... I do care that GEICO is doing business with them.

You can fool others here, but you are not fooling me. I harbor no bad feelings toward SDP. I harbor bad feelings against scam artists. If people are stupid enough to give SDP/NME their credit card or checking account information over the telephone that is their own fault. I check out companies BEFORE they get their hands on my personal information, and I suggest that everyone else do the same. The problem is many of them do not know what N.M.E. is when they receive that mailing piece. That's why I say they should do research about the company and then call back if they feel they want to do business with them. I have never defended SDP even when my husband was working there, and I never will. You sir are most likely young and naive. Tell me David, do you have a college degree? Can't you find an upstanding company to work for?

Okay, so you managed to find our script. Go ahead. Read it. Inspect it all you want. There is nothing illegal about that script.

I work as a "Supervisor" AKA Verifier. I handle credit card transactions. We have many different plans, but yes, we do offer a 4 year plan initially. The total for all 5 magazines over 4 years of service is $268.32, which we usually divide into 4 consecutive monthly payments of $67.08 each.

That is for ALL 5 magazines. It is true we have some bad apples at the company, but usually they get terminated quickly when they are found out. All of my calls are recorded and monitored by our Quality Department. If I so much as leave out ONE WORD during confirmation of the order, I will be fined. If I do it enough times, I will be FIRED.

As for GEICO, it is their choice of who to affiliate with. But please don't trash out company simply because you are misinterpreting the script.
