let me just start by saying that i usually do not write reviews, i was just so discusted and dissapointed with this experiance that it deserves a review.

i purchased a browning x-bolt from a firearm dealer. Apon bringing it home I began putting my scope mounts on, all went well until that last bolt. i ended up messing up and overtightening it and stripping out the threads on the bolt. so now i had threads stuck in the holes and could not thread in another bolt.....s**t.... having paid a high price for this gun I just wanted to hang my head and bring it in somewhere and have the holes tapped out and scope mounted and bore sighted. Thats when i made the mistake of bringing it to GS Gunsmithing.

When i first arrived at GS, it seemed fine. It was a good price and the gunsmith "seemed" to know what he was talking about. so i left my nice brand new rifle, scope, and mounts in the hands of this man. The next day i was contacted by GS tellin me that my gun was ready for pickup....sweet... When I arrived to pick up the gun i was informed that the gun had to go back to browning. As you can imagine i was quite confused and frusterated with this news. The gunsmith said  that browning had drilled the front holes for the scope mounts slightly off because he wasnt able to boresight my gun. Confused i asked a few more questions.

Could it be the rings---- no this is a reputable brand ring its not the rings

Could it be the scope----- im not sure but i dont think so.

So I had him try a scope that i knew was good because i had it on 2 other guns prior. 2 days later i recieved another call saying that my gun is ready to pick up. When i arrived i was told that that scope magically worked and that i should go shoot it and see if i can get it zeroed in. So i paid up, brought my gun home and looked down the scope. The scope wasnt even straight. Furious I brought the gun back to him and showed him the problem. he then tried to blame the crosshairs being crooked on the fact that those holes were supposedly misdrilled at the factory. If this statement didnt make sense to you just know that you are not alone. I then had him look down the scope and look at how crooked the crosshairs were, and I am not joking his words were, "well they may be a little off but you cant really tell when you look at the wall through it. but lets try re boresighting it anyways". It was then that i had had enough, I kindly requested that he remove the scope, the mounts and re-tap the holes and i will come pick it up. He then informed me that It would take a week to do. How it takes 3 days to tap 8 holes and mount and boresight 2 scopes, but yet it takes a week to remove 1 scope and rings and retap holes is beyond me.

So today was the big day. I get to go pick up my gun and mount everything myself.....wrong.... i showed up and he instantly informed me that the gun has got to go back to browning because now apparently he went to retap one of the holes and completely messed it up, but still blamed it on browning. Now the Hole is not only tapped at an angle it is also oblong. So now i have a gun that is in much worse condition than when i brought it in. also i forgot to mension this earlier in the review but when he put on both scopes, i have no idea what he did, but now both my bushnell scope off my deer hunting rifle and my brand new 6.5x20-50 Barska are dented where the rings were. when i mentioned this to him all he had to say was "oh... well i guess the rings must be out of round or somthing". These being the same rings that i had asked  him about earlier and he said that they were "quality rings" and that nothing is wrong with them.

so now i am sitting on an $800 gun, $400 worth of scopes that are now dented and accessories for a gun that i bought over 2 weeks ago and still have yet to shoot. Not to mention the fact that now i might be looking at buying a new reciever for my gun if browning dose not cover it as their fault.

my opinion is that if you are the gun "profesional" you need to have the knowledge to know when to say, somthing is wrong here, weather its the gun or the mounts or the scope. I strongly believe that if i had never stripped that bolt in the first place i would have a gun with a scope mounted on it today. All i can say is that if you are going to look for a gunsmith. DO NOT make the same mistake that i did by going to this hack who should have no business calling himself a gunsmith
