We bought a used Chevy Silverado. Paid $25,000. In less than a year we have had to completely have the rear axle rebuilt 3 times. When I say rebuilt, I mean everything rebuilt.  Drive it about a month then BAM!  I contacted GM about giving me my money back that I have put into it.  I think that is only fair. They basically told me tough crap. They said they do not buy back used vehicles.  This was a huge purchase for us.  Not like we can just go get another.  We put everything we had into purchasing it. Bad thing is we found out that the delearship knew the vehicle was bad but did not disclose it to us at the time of sale. GM knows this is lemon and will not own up to it and take it back.. Now I cant trade it in because the retail is less than I owe,. Cant drive it because the rear axle can lock up when driving it and kill my family'. DO NOT ever buy a GM product". Warning!!!!!! Try Ford or Toyota!. I am getting this word out to everyone I know'.  My tax dollars bailed them out.  This was my fourth Chevy vehicle to own and my absouloute last.  We will never own another GM product, nor anyone in my family.  If you are going to get a GM product, proceed with caution.  They only have a 3 year bumper to bumper warranty.  The 5 year power train warranty will not get you out of a vehicle that is a lemon using the Lemon Law Act. Lemon Law Act only supports new vehicles or those within the bumper to bumper warranty.  So if you get a GM vehicle, make sure you sell it to some other poor soul before your bumper to bumper is up.

Here's what has happened...you bought a USED CAR on an "AS-IS" basis.  This means, there is NO WARRANTY implied or otherwise.  You would have signed the "AS-IS" disclosure.  This disclosure statement also would have said any and all repairs are YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.  You would have signed or initialled this disclosure indicating YOU understood the terms of the sale and there is NO WARRANTY!  So then, what would make you think you are ENTITLED to free warranty service when you did not receive a warranty?  Also, the Lemon Law applies only to NEW vehicles.

Sorry that you are going through what you are.  I used to hear horror stories like this all the time when I used to work for them.  GM products include Chevrolet, Buick, Saturn, Saab, Pontiac, GMC, Hummer, and Cadillac.  I am so glad that I no longer work there.  Seemed like we customer service agents were like the shields for GM so that the executives could tell us how to carry out their policies and they did not have to answer for anything.  I listened to stories of people getting ripped off left and right.  I always hated that feeling that I was helpless and there was nothing that I could do.  I would have so much anxiety sometimes I could not even bring my self to go to work.  I really felt for people like you.  The car is the second most costly purchase in a persons life and they treat the customers like broke out of work children treat their parents.....a sense of entitlement to the money without consideration for the financial situations of those they are getting the money from.  They also have this sense oh well the dealership is a separate entity what do I care what they do to you none of my business.  Ummmm hello the dealerships carry a GM product therefore they are responsible for what the dealerships do.  Even if this is not technically the case because that is how the company organizes itself they are still responsible.  I have had customers that have called in where an agreement needed to be reached but they are out of luck because the dealership they had to work with closed down.  Not the customer's problem GMs problem.  I have had other customers with serious vehicle issues get laughed at because yes they had recalls and special coverages but because they had to bring their vehicle to another country they could not get their issues fixed....one of my customers had gas fumes in their car and also leaked gas.....would not light a match near that car!  Seems like a bad dream I am glad I am no longer their and it boggles me that others work their I don't see how anyone with a conscious could work their.  I guess it all comes down to money and this is why they get away with it.  Even though this is true I however do have a conscious so to all of you who were wronged I apologize for all you have gone through not as a former but rather as a regular person who is also just trying to get by.  I know this will not fix your problem but at least I can do for you what GM will not.

GM Chevy Love It Or Return It

GM does not honor its guarntee even on new vehicles. I purchased a 2012 Volt on 8-22-12 and tried to return it under the "Chevy Love It or Return It Guarntee" They denied my request. Claimed I took a rebate that I did not take. Chevy Runs Deep In my pockets." Total Confidence" is total crap. Love it or Return it is a scam that is carried out by GM and the Dealers. The Dealers fail to inform the consumers and trick them into taking a rebate and then claim you can't return the car. This is false advertising on a national level.

The reason coast asked if you could prove the dealership knew about the problem is because there is a such thing as Unfair and Deceptive Practices Laws.  You may be able to get out the loan based on that.  You should probably contact an attorney to figure out exactly how to file the claim.

In all honesty, the real ripoff here is paying $25000 for a used vehicle, I'm just saying.  You could have bought brand new for that price.  Then you would have gotten the warranty with it.

In response to the vehicle needing the same thing repaired 3 times in less than a year automatically meaning the vehicle is a lemon - Are you using the same shop for each of those repairs?  Is it possible that the mechanic is rebuilding it wrong or using faulty parts?  Or, could there be something else wrong with the vehicle they are missing that could be causing the issues?

Every manufacturer has a warranty.  And when monor things go wrong, yes that is what the warranty is for.  Even for major repair. But that major repair should be fixed after the first repair. When you have a vehicle that has had to have the same repair 3 times in less than a year this is a lemon. And GM should recognize that and stnad behind the product they make. So about every 3 months this vehicle has to have the rear axle completely rebuilt. And I mean this truck is not used for towing and is never treated badly.  So once this "Warranty" you like to praise so much about runs out, guess who the repair bill will be on.  I get to pay for this vehicle for 4 more years and will have it in the shop for repair several more times for the same repair.  And yes to answer your question, I do have proof the delearship knew of the problem. I am going through them. However they did not make the lemon. GM did and should stand behind their product.  Will never buy another GM.  They are scavengers.

Yes they do. It's called a warranty. You requested a refund on an out-of-warranty repair. Apparently you do not understand the concept of warranty terms.

Can you prove that claim? If you can you may have a legal claim against the dealer, not GM.
