This is a bit of a long story as it occurred over a one-month period.  I have a 1962 Chevrolet Impala that needed brake work - they were going to the floor.  I brought it to Just Brakes (JB) and using a Groupon arranged for their "Four wheel premium brake service" for $89.00.  I left the car there on November 26th.  the premium service includes BRAKE SHOES REPLACED, PACK THE BEARINGS AND MACHINE ROTORS AND DRUMS.  After about a week they called to say that the car needed a new master cylinder and a brake booster, and oh yes that will cost $654.27.  I n=knew the prices they were charging for the parts were costing me twice what I could by them for, retail.

I said I'll buy the parts, you do the labor.  This upset them but they finally agreed.  I brought the parts in and around a week later they called to say they were the wrong parts.  I returned the parts and purchased the "correct" parts, according to JB.

Around 3 days later I got a call saying, "guess what the fist set of parts are the correct ones", back went the recently purchased parts and re-purchased the original parts.  A week later they tell me the car is ready to go, but now the battery is dead and the JB boys do not have a charger or jumper - they need to see if they can borrow one form the Macco paint shop next door.  After sitting there for 30 minutes they get the charger and we get the car started; and the brakes go all the way to the floor!

The guy in charge, Preston, says well I guess we need to bleed them again.  I had to walk 7 miles home as I had no ride.  On December 27th I get a call from Preston saying, "Mr. Paul we got you break peddle" Not certain what that means, I ask for clarification, now he says the brake drums need replacing!

I ask why, when they were putting the brake shoes on the brake drums didn't they notice that the drums needed replacement.  To which he replies that he told me this.  Sorry but this is a complete lie.  If I'm replacing the shoes, packing the bearings, replacing the master cylinder and the power booster, why would i say no to new drums if that's what is needed?  Preston: "I don't know, but i told you".

I go to pick up the car, the "mechanic" goes next door to Macco to borrow the jumper, we start the car and guess where the brakes go?  Correct, right to the floor!  Preston just shrugs his shoulders as if to say "Duh".

Knowing that these idiots do not know how to repair the car I had already arranged for a two truck which is standing by.  Preston says he will not let the car go until I pay my bill which we had previously agreed (for this portion of the labor) would be $144.00.  Now I get a bill for $288.00.  I paid the bill, made notations on the invoice that the car was not repaired and upon returning home have contacted VISA to cancel payment.

I have also filed a complaint with the Texas Attorney General's office as the corporate office of Just Brakes is located in Dallas.

I STRONGLY urge anyone ripped off by there thieves to file a report with the Texas AG office.

You Had To Walk 7 Miles Home?

AUTHOR: SUCKA! - (USA)

POSTED: Monday, December 31, 2012

I also gathered from your silly complaint that you had no other choice than to walk 7 miles home, as you stated.  This tells me you had no other means of transportation and were trying to gather sobs from following readers.  Either you couldn't afford to call a taxi or didn't have any friends to pick you up.  Sounds to me like you are the one who needs to get away from the computer and get a life or stop spending a monthly internet fee and apply that money towards reliable transportation.  Is this inheritance your only mode of transportation?

It doesn't matter how deep or shallow your pockets are.  Since you are familiar with Summit, you obviously know where to find quality auto parts at wholesale prices.  But, the fact that you tried to use a groupon for brake hardware to repair a brake hydraulic issue, then complain about the company advertising a brake hardware coupon shows your incompetence as a consumer.

I would love to know if you are actually monetarily redeemed...since I doubt you will be.

Response to Sucka - What a Silly Consumer

AUTHOR: Paul in Houston - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, December 29, 2012

Dear Sucka, thanks for your helpful response to my initial report, very helpful. Just to put things in perspective; the car was an inheritance, the parts were all purchased by me from Classic Industries & Sumit Racing. I have successfully used Groupon's on a number of occasions and continue to use them - guess my pockets are not quite as deep as yours.

About the only thing you got correct was my lack of due diligence prior to using Just Brakes. Now walk away from the computer, go out and try to find a life.

For those of you who are interested in this complaint, more than my use of Groupon, I contacted the Just Brakes CEO, Bennet Cloud. I informed him of my intention of filing a complaint with the Texas Attorney General's office as JB corporate office is in Dallas. I also called the corporate office and gave my contact info to the woman answering the phone who said she would pass it to Jeff the Area Manager.

The next afternoon I received a call from Jeff who listened to my complaint and said he would get back to me later that day. Jeff called about 3 hours later, informed me that JB would be refunding me all monies spent at JB and was very apologetic. The refund will take up to 3 weeks which is the only part of the conversation I didn't like. I will update my post once (if) I get my refund.

What a Silly Consumer!

Your "long story" is so absolutely absurd from the get-go!  I don't even know where to begin.

You own a classic '62 Impala, bought a cheap GROUPON for brake pad/shoe replacement for a HYDRAULIC problem on your classic '62 Impala.  You presumed that anyone would actually get the correct parts the first time aftermarket on your classic '62 Impala.  And, besides buying a cheap groupon to use on your classic '62 Impala, you took the vehicle to one of the most poorly overall rated repair facilities in the U.S.???  Wow!  You should really sell that car to someone who actually gives a d**n about it. Take the money and run.  Someone else would love to genuinely take care of that car as it properly deserves and put the money deserved into it.  If you deny ignorance, then you are beyond stupidity on so many levels.

Groupon customers are the worst.  They expect the world for pennies.  With 90% of Groupon customers, when they don't receive 5 star service at a 1/4 star price, they throw the biggest d**n tantrums out there.  When a brake pedal falls to the floor, this has nothing to do with your brake pads, shoes, rotors, or drums.  Aftermarket parts for classic cars will almost never be right the first time around.

If you really want the right parts, go to Ecklers.com.  This website specializes classic Chevy parts. Find someone who knows what they are working on and can do it right.  Dont buy some stupid cheap groupon.  Do your online research first.  Call around first.  Youre an idiot for jumping on a cheap groupon and presuming that your cheap groupon applied to the extensive work you need completed on your classic '63 Impala.

No, I do not work for this company.  Nor, do I support this company.  I just think you top the list of Stupid Consumers.
