I've read a few reports about King Ryan Events being a scam. First of all, it's not a scam. It's exactly what they tell you it is. You go to a venue, you play your music in front of a bunch of people, someone (in this case, Roderick Scott) or a number of someone's indicate they are with a record label.
You get interviewed and get your pictures taken. It appears as if it's a big deal. I was happy to be a part of it. Our band got some exposure, we played on a cool stage, and we turned a few heads. We were given some feedback on our performance and certainly appreciate the constructive criticism. Fine.
My issue is that we signed a contract stating that we would sell tickets to the event as outlined in these statements:
All tickets must be sold prior to the event and the money generated from ticket sales must be turned in to an authorized representative from King Ryan Events before the Artist will be allowed to perform.
the tickets that you have been given to sell are the property of King Ryan Events. Should you need to cancel your spot in the showcase Artist must return the tickets to a King Ryan Events representative or mail the tickets ASAP to 17939 Chatsworth St #231 Granada Hills Ca. 91344 immediately
Showcase artists will be given 50% commission on their ticket sales over and above the minimum requirements based on this agreement. Artist must exceed the minimum in order to receive commission. Tickets for this event cost $20.00
Artist any representative of showcase artist cannot sell tickets to the showcase outside of the venue on the date of the showcase hawking for any reason whatsoever. If showcase artist has remaining tickets for the showcase they are to be turned in to an authorized representative of King Ryan Events
King Ryan Events will not honor any other online ticket sales link or tickets printed by any other organization. General Admission persons must have an official ticket authorized and produced by King Ryan Events Inc. Including online sales links, hard copy tickets etc.
Showcase artist must meet minimum deposit of first five (5) tickets sold within 7 days from the date of this agreement. Ticket proceeds will be deposited to the King Ryan Events account at Chase Bank. Cash is the only form of payment acceptable.
If you notice, there is a lot of discussion about tickets, where to get them, what is owed on them, ticket money needs to be deposited, etc. The problem is that we sold a ton of tickets. We paid the promoters well in advance, and we've never received a nickel for the gig. Today is December 9, the gig was October 9. In fact, you could say that we paid in full for well above our required ticket count by September 39.
At this point, however, we have received nothing. We are owed $620 for our efforts. E-mail, voice mail, direct conversation, and text messages with Mark Pilkenroth and whoever Ryan is have gotten us nowhere. It doesn't even seem to be on their radar to pay. It's a joke. We were taken. King Ryan Events makes the reservations, you pay for the party, you provide the entertainment, you get nothing.

Mark Pilkenroth and King Ryan Events sent our check on 1/9/12. Granted, I never thought we'd be on 90 payment terms, but they paid.
