My husband purchased a pair of pillowcases at Milford Kohls- not realizing that I had already purchased the pillowcases. He paid for these with a personal check (I have a kohls credit card for 8 years now).  He went back to Kohls. the next day, to return the pillowcases and was told that- with a check- he would have to wait seven day before he could get a refund.

He returned in seven days (with his receipt) and was THEN told that he could NOT get his cash back, but could only get an INSTORE CREDIT..

The next day- (today) I called Kohls about this. They apologized and said to come BACK to the store and go to the service desk and they would give him a PAY-OUT and give him the cash.  He went BACK to the store.

THIS time, he was told that he would have to wait TEN DAYS, when paid for with a check! The check had already cleared two days earlier.  So- another trip for nothing!

Seems that nobody at Kohls knows what their policies are- and are constantly giving wrong information.  Now I have an INSTORE CREDIT- which I will more than likely never use since I plan on NEVER shopping Kohls again!

Miscommunication.

Actually the policy for Kohl's is 10 days for a personal check because if a person bounces a check and Kohl's issues a refund they will be out that money. They are only protecting themselves against fraud. Just because you can see the check cleared from your account DOES NOT mean that Kohl's has received the funds. Kohl's is not the only one with this policy. Go into any department store (JCPenney, Sears, Macys) and they'll say the same thing. You should've been aware of the refund policy associated with the tender you used. Then this situation would've never arose. Secondly, you should've gotten the name of the manager you talked with and made sure they were going to be there when you returned. If you are EVER suspicious of an employee then ask to speak to a manager. This just sounds like a bunch of miscommunications on your part and theirs.

I don't know of any store that would give cash back on a check w/o waiting. Yes I know they screwed up communication, but you might have give your husband the name of the person you talked to. Customer service is over as we used to know it. Use the store credit and move on.

So your're idea of revenge is to let them keep all of your money and not even use the credit?  That'll show them.
