I saw an add  on Craigslist and when I called the employment ad, I was told to come down immed. I had to make the appointment within the hour. The Company Name was La Piedra which means "The Rock" in Spanish. When I filled out my application I found out it was really Kirby. In the Interview I was told there was a guarantee of 2050 although their training Video says 2800.  a month for just showing the vacuum. They were wanting to get out word of mouth advertising. I was told that appointments would be set for me and that there was no door to door sales. This was all a lie. I asked them why the name was not Kirby and they said because if they did, no one would come.

I went to training for a week. All I heard was foul language, loud music and talk about strip clubs, getting drunk, using drugs, finding dates from potential customers and more.   I was told to take the unit home for the weekend and sale my friends and family. I did not want to do this at first but felt pressured. I had to sign a paper with the serial number of the unit and then come Monday, I was told that I could not bring it home with me again and it would be put in the so called training van each day and if it got scratched, or something happened to it, I was responsible. I could no longer pack it up, that a field person would do that for me. This seemed unfair to me.

I was upset when during training the trainer told the story on how he used the kirby to show bedbug samples with the vacuum and told the customer that that is what he was eating while going down on his wife..

He has forgotten that he was being recorded. He even gave his consent

That next week, I found out we were going out in the field with the field reps. I thought we were all going in one vehicle, turns out it was in pickup trucks with people that were missing teeth and looked Very Unprofessional. I also had to wait 2 hours before they got ready and  having enough, told them they were waisting my time.  I told one of the front desk orientation sales ladies that I had an appointment on my own that evening and wanted to know know what time we would be back.. I was told they didn't know. I was told that I could not go to an appointment during the week on my own anymore.. seemed to be a bit unorganized to me.

The guy trainer Zack told me that if you can "KNOCK" your way in and drink with them till 2 in the morning then... go for it.

Very unprofessional I must say.... and I am still waiting for my pay

same experience in houston texas

AUTHOR: olivia - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, May 23, 2011
I would like to say i believe what the writer has said as i have been somewhat in the same position here in houston texas, and in my experience when we were almost arrested for "soliciting" we realized our "teamleader" who happened to be the person driving , turned out he didnt have a drivers license and had a warrant out for his arrest! i thought you people did  background checks?! obviously not! and not only that but he kept hitting on me and making me feel extremely uncomfortable, oh and by the way i did try and speak to "daniel blalock" about the issue and all he did  was avoid me and say "your not trying hard enough" ! whatever! we were all lied to from the get go and were rushed into signing a contract we werent even given copies of ! i assume reading this that all distributors everywhere are assholes that only give a f**k about themselves! id much rather further my education than spend my time decieving people or being around uneducated drug addicts with no morals!

#2 General Comment

My Kirby Experience

AUTHOR: stacia - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, March 17, 2011

I would like to make a comment over some facts I do know about this company. I have been with the Kirby Company for over 6 years now. I have been working with La Piedra which is an independent Kirby distributorship for close to a year. I would like to say that La Piedra is by far no where close to what this individual has tried to paint.

I will agree that the vulger language, sexual harrasement and crude comments stated during the training class was completely un-acceptable. However, HOW COME THIS WASNT REPORTED!!!! I know when I started I had to sign a sexual harrasement form (like most companies) that stated if there is EVER a problem to contact certain individuals in the company.

This is a great company to work for. I have made more money then most people in "average" jobs. I have NEVER been denied my pay, EVER. I have earned the bonuses, vacations, and everything that they did offer in training. And honestly the owner has been by far one of the most favorite bosses I have ever had. Amazing person with extremely good morals, and its not fair that he has had to work so hard for what he has and somebody say these things about his business.

Funny fact is, EVERYONE that starts with La Piedra does have to sign a contract, that they call a guarentee. It goes over how the pay works, the amount, and everything that consists of it. So if you made it past training, that means you read it, signed it, and (hopefully if intellegence allows) you understand it. So if you didnt get paid, you must ask yourself, did YOU do what YOU said that you WOULD do. I have NEVER seen a company that would pay $2050.00 to a person that quit on the 1st day of work. If there is one out there, then PLEASE let me know, and I will change my opinion. I know that I have had to work to get paid, and I know that everybody else that works here does too.

We have people that actually make at least $1,000 a week in commisions and bonuses, if not more. They tell you in the beginning that this job is for people who are willing to work hard, and follow directions, and if you can be then you will make great money. Its definately by far also one of the easiest jobs ever. Its VACUUMING!!!!! Come on!!!

As far as the people, I would like to state that I have ALL of my teeth, and so does everybody else I know that works here.

The training where they ask you to take a Kirby home and show friends and family by the way is for practice. Not to shove Kirbys down these peoples throat, but to give you the chance to practice with the equipment so when you start for real, then you KNOW how to use it. How terrible of them for wanting to give someone the chance for you to be the best you can be getting started.

Overall, I am extremely proud of the company I work for. I am VERY sorry that you had to deal with what you had to in your couple of days in training, I do agree with what the other rebuttal says, MAYBE if you would of reported the problem then maybe it would of been handled IMMEDIATELY instead of finding it on the internet, and not being able to handle it effectively! But I guess we all deal with our situations the way that we do. I have never heard of a company that there is not problems of some sort, just think of all the jobs you have ever had. I think that Kirby is a GREAT opportunity for financial independence and it gives you the chance to make as much money as you want to make. And for that I will NEVER have anything bad to say about the company.

#1 REBUTTAL Owner of company

Really? why not try contacting owner instead of bad-mouthing a company online??

AUTHOR: La Piedra - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, March 17, 2011
This rebuttal is written by the owner of La Piedra.
I really do not understand why such a major problem like this was never brought to the attention of the owner of the company or to anyone in management instead of bad-mouthing a company online.  Isn't that unprofessional and unfair? I just am curious, but if what is said did happen at a place you just started wouldn't you have IMMEDIATELY brought this to the attention of the OWNER?
So that everyone understands Zack is NOT nor was he EVER a Kirby Distributor. He was simply a self-contractor that worked for La Piedra.  Zack is no longer employed by La Piedra.
He was trained to PROPERLY explain and train new dealers.  We trained Zack in a certain matter and expected him to perform as such.  We cannot control what he says or does when management is not around.  I wish I could control every word that is spoken as well as everyone's actions in order to ensure things are always handled properly but I cannot.  I am very sorry if he handled himself in that manner that was not appropriate.  La Piedra does not tolerate foul language, sexual discrimination, lies, or any such behavior.  I also believe that La Piedra is not the first company to have problems out of someone who
has worked for them.  That is why you talk to someone about it.  Why
bad-mouth a company behind their back without ever giving them a chance to make things right.
Why was the owner never contacted about this problem? Anyone faced with
this type of scenario would have immediately brought it to the owner's
attention am I right?  Wouldn't you?
The guarantee of $2050 is paid only upon completion of 60 appointments with 0 sales and only then.  There is a legal contract that is read and signed by both parties stating the above. You immediately receive a carbon copy of this agreement. The income for management is $2800.
The first that is made clear to everyone in the orientation is who the owner is and his contact information in case their are any problems.
None the less Zack is no longer with La Piedra if that helps.
As far as you still waiting to get paid why again would you NOT contact the owner regarding this issue?!?! Anyone who thinks a company owes you wages would have contacted the company immediately, right?
The company La Piedra contact information is (903)984-5900 ask for the owner and we will be happy to address this further or any other problems over the phone or in person.
