I agree with the report from anonymous. LNL did basically the same thing to me, after leading me to believe that the office that we would be in would be the main area where we worked. In truth, they only wanted us there once a week and to bring in policies when we sold them. They led you to believe you would become a fully trained agent and didn't let you know that the pay would be commission only. Not to mention that you would be driving high dollar gas out of your car on wild goose chases they called leads. (and I hadn't planned on driving much at all).

The leads themselves were very deceptive, anything from mail outs to senior citizens leading them to believe that they were going to be MAILED some information on benefits from the government, to which they were only brought insurance sales information and high pressure tactics from my particular manager; to cold calls and businesses which were much like anonymous was complaining about.

My experience was earlier than his, so apparantly it is a company wide practice that has happened over time. I left a well-paying job to come there, and ended up making less than $40 on some checks the company issued. I spent more than that on gas. (The company advertises you will make around $100,000...or have that potential. I would think with their organization or lack thereof, that would only happen for top ranking managers.) If I hadn't had some residual income and family support, it would have really been hurting. My highest check was pretty decent, but as anonymous said, I never could track how they calculated the pay, and it didn't seem right at times.

After working a short period of time, I quit. Then for some reason, I was sent a stupid letter from their corporate office saying something like "we can't prove it, but we think you've stolen our leads...and we will prosecute". If their leads were stolen, someone else did...I had informed the manager of where and with whom I left my leads and book of business. I have been told that most of the companies other than some of the major companies that also deal in property and casualty insurance also do practically the same thing to employees. Some even have you work on a loan basis to begin with, and if you don't sell enough, they make you repay and they fire you. AIG, Afflac, etc...were some of the names that were mentioned in insurance circles. But my advice to anyone, is don't work for this company unless you have a mint somewhere and are willing to high-pressure sale.
