I was contacted by a representative of Lincoln Heritage after answering an ad posted on craigslist. He invited me to Lousiville for an interview. In Louisville I met with him and two other agents and was told they had lots of good leads in southern KY that they needed someone to contact. They did not mention how much the leads were going to cost or exactly how they were obtained. I agreed to get on board with them and went through the usual appointment process. I was charged for an appointment fee and calling cards.

I was sent 15 leads from Metcalfe county, five from Allen county and proceeded to contact them. Many would not answer their phones or if they did answer would not agree to a visit from me. I then tried taking the leads and going to the addresses, knocking on doors. I wrote two applications in Allen county, two in Metcalfe. When I got my commission payment, Lincoln Heritage had withhelld half of the commissions to pay for leads.

When I questioned my sponsoring agent about the lead charges he told me the leads cost $15 for mail in leads and $22 for TV leads. I was actually charged almost double that and I was sent duplicates in some cases being charged double for the leads that were not interested.

I could see that I was going to end up losing more money if I continued with Lincoln Heritage, so I stopped ordering leads from them. I finally got two more applications in Barren county from a referral, but never got any commission for those sales. Lincoln Heritage sent me a letter saying I owed them over $700 and I was being dropped from the contract. They wanted me to pay back all the lead charges and all the commissions for the sales I had made. I called them and told them I was not going to pay for in-force business and they said I needed to pay the lead charges ($400).

If you are an agent considering Lincoln Heritage, beware of the fine print. They will rip you for their leads and tell you you are stupid and lazy if you don't sell off the leads. You will have a difficult time making any money with them.
