Documentation of issue with Texas Tag and NTTA June 30, 2009

I have been a customer of Texas Tag since the summer of 2007. When I started my account, I allowed them to transfer $20 when the balance reached $10. There has never been a time that this did not occur as expected for both parties.

In May of 2009, my husband's debit/bank card quit working magnetic strip. When we went to the bank to get him a new card, the banker talked us into a different type of debit/credit card which caused us to get a new card number. Our banking account number remained the same. I spent the next few weeks updating my card for on-line payments and autodrafts. I overlooked the TxTag account actually thinking it was a direct debit from my bank account. On June 15th, I received a letter from TxTag thanking me for using Tx Tag, but notifying me that the auto replenishment source on my account was declined on 6/7/09.

I immediately recognized what had occurred and called them on the day I received the letter. I gave her my new card number and she asked me if she could use it for my account and reinstate the AutoPay. I readily agreed. My banking account was debited on that very day, 6/15 at 16:36. She made no mention that she was not going to take care of all charges that were outstanding.

When I received a notice of nonpayment of toll from NTTA on June 30, 2009, I was shocked. Not only did it include the trip I made to my family on June 13th (a total of $6.80), it included a $1.00 toll charge from 7/4/08. The total of this bill was $232.80 primarily ADMIN fees.

I immediately called NTTA and TxTag to find out what I needed to do as I had (in good faith) believed that when I updated my card # that all was resolved. No comment was made that there was a problem when I talked to the rep on 6/15/09. The TXTag person (Marcy) told me to fax the bill and any other documentation to support the payment of the 7/4/08 charge to TxTag and they would research and investigate.

After we faxed this to them today, I received an email from TXTag stating that I should pay a percentage of the $232.80 to NTTA to resolve. The same email was sent to NTTA and now both parties believe that I should pay $82.05 to resolve the invoice.

I have provided the appropriate resource to TxTag and they easily could have used the new card # for the 6/13/09 charge totaling $6.80.
