My Pool vacuum was not working properly and was in need of a part, so i went back to Paddock Pool at Pima Crossing in Scottsdale. I have been buying from Paddock for 11 years now and always felt that their prices were high, but i felt obligated to support a locally owned company.

I found the part in the store with no problem, it was a 6" diaphragm for my pool  cleaner made of either silicone or plastic of some kind. It was torn and did need replacing.

They had the part in stock - no problem. I asked the lady how much and she said $49.95 and i looked at her and said " For that little thing?"  She shrugged her shoulders and handed me the part so i could go upfront and pay for it.

I used my 10% preferred customer card and paid around $48 including tax.

To make this long story short, i went home , installed the part and went to my computer to check the pricing on the internet. I found the same genuine part as low as $7.63 - plus postage , so around $11 to my house via USPS. I found many sites selling the part for less than $17.

Bottom line- Paddock is entitile to a fair profit for their  goods and services. My guess is that the part probably costs around

$7 plus freight to Paddock. Even with my discount of 10%, that puts my purchase at an 81% gross margin for them.

This is the epitome of a Ripoff and i feel compelled to report it. I will not be buying from them again. Truly , a  Paddock Pool Discount card is an oxymoron.

Price Gouging Response

There are many types of diaphrams within the pool industry that are carried and sold both at a retail store level and via the internet.  Paddock carries and sells a long life diaphram.  Although you may have a genuine part there may be a difference.  That being said I would ask you to contact our corporation via backyardfun@paddockpools.net referencing your issue so we can communicte directely.  Paddock recognizes that our customers have options and our corporate culture is to value and respect each one.

Sir since its obvious that you dont know what your talking about, let me give you the information that will help you to understand. 1. You went into a "Brick and Mortar" store. They have overhead taxes employees inventory, I could go on. 2. A internet store only has no real overhead 1-5 employees. So on and so forth. This means that even though you found a price online that was cheaper then the physical store, it doesnt really count. The prices of merchandise online is cheaper because they have less overhead then a standard store. Yes it is admirable that you are supporting your local businesses but you CAN NOT compare pricing. Its 2 different ways of selling retail.

You were not ripped off. Thats the normal cost of any item you dont purchase online. You needed the item immediatly. If you had purchased the item online you would have had to wait. atleast 2-3 days for a normal online business before its shipped out. There is a GREAT chance you would have chosen the "FREE" shipping. That being said, FREE doesnt mean PROMPT. So that would add another 2-3 days until you recieved your item that you would have purchased online. Thats not to include any issues that might arrise from the fact that you would be purchasing your item online from a website. That in itself can be a issue.

I hope this information has helped you to understand the differences between Online shopping and Store shopping. I spend this time to educate you in the hopes that your understanding will help you in the future when making decisions to purchase merchandise.
