I am a member of Redbox and have no complaints about their service per se. My problem is in the emails I receive, asking me to click a web link to verify my email address and membership info, in exchange for a free rental code. Once there, you are again promised the code so that you will get one free rental in exchange for the verification. The problem arises that the code is never received.

I contacted Redbox by telephone and spoke to one of their customer service reps - who sounded like she was smacking on bubble gum while speaking with me. At first, she didn't seem to understand the simplicity of the problem. Then finally when she did, she advised me that Redbox is NOT responsible for what their 'system' emails out to its customers. She said their was nothing she could do about the missing rental code and I did get the feeling that either she, or perhaps Redbox itself, had no idea who was getting these emails and no intention of worrying about fulfilling their promises.

The rentals from the Redbox machines are only a dollar... so it is not a matter of expense in that sense. It is, however, a problem when it comes to the sharing of personal information and then, having the recipients treat it so flippantly. What's more, their customer service may well view ALL customers as a cheap, one dollar date.

I have already spent money with Redbox. They have my credit card number, my personal information and it was verified with the promise of a free rental. Cost or not, I would expect any business to fulfill this kind of contract and treat their source of income; the consumer, with a little more seriousness and respect.
