I purchased a microwave on at www.sears.com on 11/12/2007. I planned to use $10 Sears gift cards for pay for purchase. The total price with tax was $212; however, upon entering the 16th gift card, the web site flashed an error message indicating that I could not use more than 15 gift cards for a single transaction, and thus, I had to use my credit card for the remaining $62 balance. Each gift card clearly says the following: "This card is issued by Sears Promotions, LLC, and is redeemable for all merchandise and services purchased in conjunction with merchandise at participating Sears, Roebuck and Co. store locations in the United States and Puerto Rico." Particular emphasis should be given to the word all in the above sentence, as nowhere on the card is there any mention of a limit as to the number of gift cards which can be used for any single transaction. There is also no mention of the 15-gift card limit when the gift cards are purchased, and there are no written policies on the Sears web site advising of this policy. Immediately after the purchase, I wrote to Sears customer service to advise them of these facts and to request that they take my additional gift cards in lieu of the credit card payment I was forced to submit in order to complete my purchase. In response, I was told that Sears understands my frustrations, but they cannot help me. Since the gift cards have already been paid for, and because I did not anticipate spending any additional monies, I feel very strongly that this practice is deceptive, at best, and likely fraudulent.

#3 UPDATE EX-employee responds
It's not a scam or anything

Gift cards are one of the easiest things to steal. Having worked with the company for 3 years, I've seen how people can abuse them.
Why would your employer give you more than 15 cards, each of them being only $10? Why not give you one card of $150, or how much they all added up to? Gift cards can be purchased up to $500 per card, and you tell the associate how much you want on it. Why did your employer give you the cards in the first place?
The story you just told has red flags to associates. The fact that you had so many gift cards, and each of them being of so little value is supposed to send a signal to the associate that something isn't right. Just in case the associate doesn't catch it, they have programed the registers to catch stuff like that.
It sounds to me that perhaps either you or your employer did not honestly purchase those gift cards, and if that is the case, things could have gone much worse. I've seen people who have tried to so something like that be apprehended by security, and wisked away in a patrol car.

No, I did not purchase the gift cards. I did, however, receive the gift cards as a gift. Imagine that. The gift giver (my employer) did pay for the gift cards.
Regarding the word "Promotion," this is the word Sears uses on ALL of its gift cards. It has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the way in which the gift cards were purchased.

First you state "This card is issued by SEARS PROMOTION". We know what promotion means. Then you state "Since the gift cards have already been paid for". Did you actually buy and pay for the cards?
