Southern Bridal - Royal Prestige All in the Family with the help of David's Bridal RIPOFF Nashville Tennessee

Southern Bridal called me approximately two and a half months before my wedding. I "won" a honeymoon trip. I was wary of even answering the phone, as the caller was listed from out-of-state. I responded that I would attend this presentation at our local Holiday Inn.

After I hung up, I noticed that the calling company name did not match the name of the company that the caller identified herself with. If all I needed to do was to come "sign some paperwork" in order to receive this trip, why would I need to go to a hotel to do it? Why would I need to come to some meeting at a hotel & watch some presentation? In the back of my mind, I was figuring that I would have to attend some 3-hour presentation on vacuum cleaners with about 200 other couples under the impression that they had "won" the same honeymoon.

I looked both company names up in our phonebook; naturally, it was not listed. After researching online, I discovered my suspicions were correct.

A week later, I met up with a family friend who was also preparing for her upcoming wedding a few months later. Funny thing--she "won" the same honeymoon!! Fortunately, she was as wary as I was--neither of us attended the presentation. Now my sister is preparing for her wedding and "won" the same honeymoon. We all looked for dresses through David's Bridal, which is how we guess that they obtained our information, though we are still uncertain.

My advice: 1. Caller ID--the cheapest form of protection against scam artists such as these. If you don't recognize the number or the caller, you probably don't want to. 2. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. 3.Do your homework. Check with your local Better Business Bureau or ask other people you know who have recently married. 4. If you are still planning a wedding, give as little information as possible.

STOP! ..before you think about using the Better Business Bureau (BBB)... CLICK HERE to see how other consumers were victimized by the BBB's false or misleading information. Don't be fooled! It has been reported, when there are thousands of complaints and other investigations underway by authorities, the BBB has no choice but to finally give an UNsatisfactory rating to a BBB member business that is paying the BBB big membership fees every year. When a business is reported that is NOT a BBB member, BBB files WILL more likely show an UNsatisfactory rating, then reportedly shake down that company to become a member of the BBB. One positive thing about the BBB is, either way, if a business has an unsatisfactory rating with the BBB, you can be sure, the business is bad. But what about all those BBB member businesses that had complaints filed against them? Consumers never get to hear about them. What about the BBB advertising to the public? Is this a false and misleading perception they are giving about consumer confidence when dealing with a business? Click here to understand more of what consumers and business alike are saying about the BBB. You decide. ..Remember. The BBB membership is not earned, it's paid for!

You've "won" a honeymoon trip! Royale Prestige did get your name from David's Bridal

AUTHOR: April - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, November 22, 2005

Melanie, you are absolutely correct. Royale Prestige did get your name from David's Bridal. Please keep in mind that I am a former manager of David's Bridal and have not worked for them for nearly 2 years. Some of this information may have changed.

As you walked into the store, you may have noticed a fixture full of wedding planning material. You may also remember that you filled out a registration on your first visit. For a price, the vendors who had info on the fixture received the names and contact information of every new bride registered, unless....she checked the tiny box at the bottom that allowed her to opt out. The disturbing thing is that the "Vendor Participation Program" sold the list to some vendors who had no visible representation in the store.

After receiving several calls from some of my brides, I expressed my concern and displeasure to the corporate office. I heard stories just like yours and felt that it was incredibly misleading, if not deceptive. There was no action taken then, and it appears to be continuing to this day.

Ladies, please be careful when giving personal information. Know exactly why it is being requested of you, and know who will have access to it. No one can "make" you give up information. In a world full of "do not call" lists, vendors are always trying to find new ways to reel you in.

If you have already registered, and are tired of the calls and mail, contact the David's where you registered. They should have a form (they did 2 years ago) that will remove you from this list. Want to take it a step further? Voice your complaint to customer service by calling David's Bridal corporate in Conshohocken, PA.

Best wishes!
