Sunshine Kitty Katz Cattery Virginia Lenkner & Pat Koatonvy sold us a very extremly sick kitty West Homestead Pennsylvania

  I found this breeder pair on a website when searching for Pa breeders of sphynx cats. I reviewed their website and it seemed legit. They had awards  for approved cattery environment program by the Cat Fancier's Association. I further read that they were sisters who were  both retired RN's now taking care of kittens instead of patients.

They also painted  a picture of how they  lived in a large country farm house with lots of room for their cats and kitten family to play and explore. They continue to say how they do not believe in caging there cats. Being a nurse myself I had this vision in my head of happy frolicking cats with kittens in tow.

Now let me tell you what I did observe. First the odor is horrific we were greeted by the smell of cat feces and urine.

Next is a sight many have not and will never see. There were cats everywhere you turned. On the tables on the counters couches laps shoulders everywhere you turned there was another cat.

Pat proceeds to take us up the stairs into the kitten room. Here is how the kitten room really looked cages lined on the walls with a small little walkway to get into the room.

In the first cage was a sphynx with a terrible eye she said she had a corneal scratch and they were going to keep her. Next cage was a litter of Devon Rex kittens .

There eyes were runny and crusted over. Then the cage my baby was in with his 3 other litter mates. We had the choice between a male and a female.

Upon getting them out I asked several times why his eyes were running. I was told reason being the room was so hot that it made their eyes water. Against my better judgement remembering all the happy pet owners who loved their kittens I proceeded to pick out outs. We all agreed to get the little boy but last minute we changed our minds and chose the girl.

So I give her a $100 deposit agree to give her $800 more when we picked her up in two weeks. I sent her a few emails over those two weeks checking in on her seeing how she was doing . Every email I was assured she was great. I email her the day of the vet visit and she says now tells me our kitten did not pass her vet exam. She did offer our deposit back but encouraged us to take the boy.

We decided to take the little boy we originally wanted and named Lorenzo. My girls were already tickled pink they were getting a cat we had already went shopping for clothes we just had to exchange his pink sweaters for blue ones. Friday after school we loaded up in the car and drove two hours to pick Lorenzo up. We were let into the house but this time told to stay downstairs she will bring him down.  We brought a big blanket to wrap him up in but to our surprise she said that her and her mother make these double flannel blankets for all the new kittens to go home with. So I give her the balance of the money bundle the little naked baby up tight and procede to the warm car. On the way home I hear him sneezing a lot but he is in the back seat with the girls.

I then brought him up with me examining him closer and he is sneezing green mucus. I am literally wiping his nose like a baby with a tissue. At one pint my sleeve was covered in green gunk. Being a nurse I know green is not good. So throughout the night he is sneezing and at one point his nose was so stuffy it sounded like he was having difficulty breathing. Morning couldn't come fast enough by this point I am really worried. Not having any other pets I called around till a vet would see me on a Saturday morning. I plead with her to squeeze us in not wanting to wait till Monday for fear he is getting worse. We get to the vet's office and he has a severe upper respiratory infection. He is put on eye and nose drops along with an oral antibiotic.

Later that day I text Pat to let her know what had happen and sent her a copy of the bill which came to $106.00. I waited for an email and was in awe when I read what she wrote. She had enough nerve to tell me that she noticed I didn't bring a blanket and her sister and her were talking and they came to the conclusion that he caught a cold when we left because he was not covered properly. First of all he is 2.4lbs he was totally covered not even a little ear was out. She also said he had a vet certificate from the day before. However when I looked at it closely it said this is not a health guarantee and there were no significant findings.

What  does that mean? Is a cold a significant finding?I realize that this is not a lot of money but it's the point that I received a sick cat that I paid $900.00 for. It's the fact that when I walked in the door an adult cat had mucus running out of his eyes. I did make a poor decision to take him but how could I leave him there? He needed us to take him home out of that wire cage and give him a good life in a loving forever home. Because of that I don't regret bringing him home even if he has future problems. She needs to own up to her wrong doings! Lessoned learned the hard way I researched them after I brought him home and found a lot of angry buyers.

In fact one owners little boy wasn't as lucky as ours and she spent $3000 and lost him.  I plan on filing charges with the magistrate I did tell Pat that and her words were file if you must. Well I must bc any educated nurse knows you don't catch a chill and have green discharge coming from your nose and eyes from the door of the house to the car. They need to learn they can't continue is to lie and sell sick animals to families.

Maybe they don't care about what happens to them but we that adopt them do. As I was getting ready to post this I noticed that Lorenzo didn't look quite right.

I took his temp he was burning up 105.3. Rushed him to the Vet. He is home with us they gave him more antibiotics by mouth and drops in his ears. He got two shots in his muscles of antibiotics and a 50ml bolus of saline under his skin. Today's total 179.83.
