I purchased mobile home insurance from Texas Fair Plain in March 2013.  In April they came out to inspect the home.  I completely gutted the home and was in the midst of remodeling it.  I have one set of steps on the house (back door) and it has hand rails.  The inspector took pictures of the outside of the house and roof.  We had just resealed the roof a few days before. I was actually sitting on the steps when the inspector came out (he used our ladder to look at the roof). I actually told him we were in the middle of remodel.  He made no comments about repairs being required.  I have completely gutted this house and spent 30k on it (not including the purchase price of the home itself) in just over 5 months.  I have not yet built the deck for the front of the home.  Only using the back door right now.  I was not in a huge hurry since i was worried about the inside and actually completly being able to move in.  I also fenced an area for my small dog and put skirting up around the house including new insulation underneith the home.  The desk / front steps was the last on my list.  However it seems since I didn't have steps (handrails) they said on the home they cancelled my insurance.  I talked with my agent and they have no record of receiving the request for repairs (which they should have sent to me), nor did they have any record of my insurance being cancelled.  I have been without insurnace for about 2 weeks now without even knowing it.  I received a refund from Texas Fair Plan on Friday afternoon (August 23rd) and I called them.  They said well we contact the agent.  Again, I contacted my agent and they had nothing on file and it was too late at that point to contact Texas Fair Plan (they had already closed for the day).  So this morning I contact the agent again, they contact Texas Fair Plan and to no avail, I cannot get the policy reinstated, nor can i get insurance until i have steps (with hand rails).  I have to plan things out, I am not made of money I have spent a lot of money and time on this place and now have no insurance with hurrican season here.  Texas Fair Plan is the insurance of last resort in Texas and now I have nothing.  This really sucks !  I can't get insurance for mobile homes in my area Im in the Houston area north of I-10.  Yes I will get wind and rain from a hurricane but hopefully the home will remain in tact.  I just dont get it how are other folks getting insurance.  The home is paid off but I know a lot of people have mortgages on mobile homes.  Who are they insured with.  Any suggestions please  and what can i do if something happens between now and the time I can get insurance.
