Hello Everybody,

I would like to tell everyone that this company is the biggest bunch of theives you could ever encounter. The company I had worked for downsized and I lost my job,I needed money to keep pay my bills. I took the title to my truck to get the money with the promise of a job in a few weeks but that was put on hold. I have lost my house due to loosing my job. My wife and son are living with her mother and I am staying with mine. I know I owe the money on my truck I am not disputing that, they had a repo guy to come to my moms and drive off with it.

They didn't even give me a chance to get any of my belongings out of my truck. I had almost everything I owned in my truck. They took my clothes,my sons clothes, his bike, my tools, even my drivers license, mine and my sons birth certificate and social security cards. All I have are the clothes I was wearing they have everything else. I called and ask them if I could get my belongings back and was told no. They said they were going to inventory the belongings and I wasn't getting them back. I agreed to sale them my truck for the loan but not my entire life that was in the truck. Is this illegal for them to keep everything I own, or is there a way for me to get my belongings back they can have my truck for the money I owe . Please someone tell me what recourse I have.

future planning

First, I'd just like to give a response to one of the comments made before:

I realize that owning (or trying to own) a house is a large finacial responsibility, however, this does not give anyone the right to put another person down for trying to do so. If all someone can afford to do is live paycheck to paycheck then it is sad; but it's what they have to deal with. However, this may not have been the case here. Unfortunately, not everyone can have the best paying jobs to support their financial security.... and anyone who doesn't understand this is not worth the attention of a worm.

Now, as far as what to do next. Demand your belongings back and then see what recourse can be taken for getting back your vehicle. Depending on the amount, you might consider just getting a used "rust bucket" that simply runs well enough to get you too a job and back.I just found a pick-up for 2600 in my area. It has work too be done on it but the cost for that shouldn't put it over 3200 total. I recommend going to a local "for sale" web site and seeing what they have.

#3 UPDATE EX-employee responds

They cannot withhold your belongings

AUTHOR: Ex-Collector - (United States of America)

I know the office and the manager there (I worked for many different stores in that district)  and it doesn't  surprise me in the least that she would tell you that you cannot receive your stuff, however they cannot refuse you! Yes they have to do an inventory per state guidelines, but your belongings are brought back from the impound yard (Airport Auto Auction, Lewisville, TN) and are held in their back room for 60 days then given to Goodwill or thrown out. Go into the office and demand your belongings, they will give you an inventory sheet to sign and once it is signed they will give you your stuff. If they don't, call: 800-804-5368 and tell Corporate they are refusing to give you your belongings. Don't let them tell you  to call the District Manager (a dog with no teeth whatsoever!) go straight to corporate! I know Donna, you call corporate in front of her and she'll be tripping over herself to get your stuff for you.

"I have lost my house due to loosing my job"

No.  Actually you lost you house due to not having an emergency fund and living paycheck to paycheck rather than saving money.  If you don't have the skills to provide enough of an income to allow you to save any money you should not be having children until you enhance your skills.  I don't mean to be rude, but I'm sick of people who make tons of wrong choices acting like victims because they were not prepared for one of the bumps in the road that happen to all of us.  Things happen.  People lose their jobs all the time, often for reasons that are not their fault.  But not everyones life spins into instant chaos the first time they miss a paycheck.  We are (or should be) all aware that at some point during our lives there is a pretty good chance that each of us will be laid off or have some other unexpected problem that will require us to either go without an income for a while or pay out a big chunk of money.  Smart people save money so that when things like this happen it does not totally ruin their lives.   Losers believe it is not their fault, and since it is not their fault they should not have done anything differently, so in the future they will not do anything differently.  Every bump in the road will result in chaos.

You have rights

AUTHOR: duke0645 - (United States of America)

I am sorry to hear of your problems. I own some title pawn stores in Tenn and do NOT condone Titlemax's policies. In Tn. you have 20 days to redeem your vehicle. They cannot sell it before 20 days. You have the right to obtain all your personal affects during their normal business hours. Without seeing the contract you signed I dont know what they are charging you for but it seems high.

All title pawn businesses must be licensed and if you have complaints you can address them to The Tenn Dept of Financial Institutions, Nashville. 615-432-1020 If I can be of any further help you can e-mail me at (((Redacted)))  Bill Valencia
