It started 2 weeks ago when I would come home and there would be 2 messages a day saying this is not a sales call I have important information etc. etc. I finally called the number and they told me they were looking for me and that I have an outstanding debt with a department store. I told them first that the calls are to stop immediately, which they did.

I have no debt as all my credit card bills are paid in full when received. I finally received a notice in the mail from TruLogic and the account their talking about is 17 years old. They told me I had to prove that I paid this account and I told them I could not as I would not have any records at all from that long ago.

They were very un-sympathetic and I found to be quite rude as they said I need a lawyer and a power of attorney to help me with this situation. They said "So are you paying this bill?" I told them NO is so many words because I have no recollection of this what so ever because it was 17 years ago, then I hung up on them.

write a leter tot he credit bureaus and have this taken off your file

AUTHOR: Mark - (U.S.A.)

write a letter to the three credit bureaus and have this taken off your account. It is not even supposed to be there. ITS OVER, and can't stay on the account. Then write your State Attorney General and file on the credit bureaus for not taking old information off your account.

Power of attorney for what?

A debt this old can't even be put on your credit report legally.

You don't have to prove anything, the collection agency must prove you owe the debt.

Stay off the phone, they will trick, lie and do everything possible to reset the SOL, to make this debt collectable.

Steve, from Florida has given good ways to handle collection agencies, look at some of his replies in this category and under the category: collection agency

This collection agency paid less then pennies on the dollars for a debt this old.

You should look up California collection laws, and the FDCPA to get a better understanding of them so you don't make any mistakes in dealing with this company, They already been sued in Ill. for illegal collection activity.

good luck
