Be careful of this Alarm Co. They are a ripoff and are only out for your money.  Back September 2010 when I lost my job I called to cancel this service and they told me they would cancel but we would owe them $275 for cancelation fees.  I did not have the money so I sucked it.  My contract was up June 7, 2011 and I would just have to come up with the money.  During that call the representative told me just to call any time after June 7, 2011 and we could cancel the service.

At diner on Friday Night July 8, 2011 my wife turns to me and says we need to cancel the Alarm Co.  At 9:30 that same night we get a call from Vivant stating "if we wish we can upgrade our equipment" and I stop him right there. I told him the representative I want to cancel my service because I was still out of work.  He switched me to the cancelation dept.  Several minutes later i am talking to Grant who states he the shift director for cancelations.  He was rude through the call which in return got me pissed off.  He went on to say that our contract auto renewed because we did not notify them 30 days in advance in writing and that Vivant would send us to collection if we did not pay them $275 or finish out the year contract.  No one ever told us when I called to cancel it had to be 30 days prior in writing then one month after it auto renews they are going to call to ask us to upgrade.

There was never any mention that there is an auto renew if you do not notify them in writing.  If they were reputable they would have called a month before to ask if we wanted to upgrade and renew, no they call a month after and then give you the good news with an attitude "Pay Up". Even the the Wireless Phone company don't stoop that low, when you finish your contract you go month to month not Vivant it auto renews, pay up or they will cause you even more trouble then you have.

I don't have the $275 to cancel now so it is going to cost me $540 for the next year.  Where am I going to get the money I don't have a clue.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Read your contract.

AUTHOR: Ken - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, July 08, 2011

My contract says: ".....this agreement continues for 42 months and will automatically continue from year to year thereafter unless cancelled by either of us in writing no later than Thirty (30) days before the end of the original term or renewal term." This is in all caps and bold face.

There is no attempt to hide this info in the "fine print."

May I suggest you take the time to read your contract to prevent further disagreements?

So far, I've had their service for 11 months and have been satisfied with the equipment, service and overall treatment.

Sorry you're having some bad times.
