My husband and I were also misled be the "free" long distance scam.

Beef # 1. We originally purchased the service in New Mexico. When we moved to Texas, we had to have some codes entered into the phone so it would work in our area. It took quite a few phone calls (with a wait of at least 45 minutes each) and after each one we had to wait 24-48 hours to see if the last attempt worked.

We were charged for all the time that the phone was not in service.

Beef #2. We were also told that we had "free" nationwide long distance. We travelled back to New Mexico from Texas for Christmas, and made a few phone calls to relatives and such for the holiday season. We received two bills totalling over $385.00 for the "free" calls!! When we finally reached someone, we were told that it only applied in our calling area. We had never heard this before, and our disagreement was met with sarcasm and rudeness. We had to wait until the contract was up to have our service disconnected.

Beef #3. We refused to pay for the charges we felt were on our bill because of our being misled. As a result, They turned off our phone, continued charging us for the monthly service, and turned us in to collections!


One good thing from all the phone calls:
