first national collection bureau sent me a bill for a collection that i didnt order sparks, Nevada

i got a collections notice from this company in Nevada, FNCB. they said i had a debt w/Fingerhut for $359.3 and they would take 60% off if i paid them 2 payments of $71.86, so i sent them $72 check this morning. Got home and decided i was gonna call this collection agency b/c this was over 12 years ago and i was a minor and i remember putting this in my boyfriends name b/c i was a minor. so i called FNCB and the phone was disconnected, then i called fingerhut and they said they had no records of me, even with using my SSN. So i called my bank and they are gonna cancel the check. it will cost me $29 but i guess thats better than $72.
