Narconon is Scientology and other safety issues

AUTHOR: California-Rehab-Referral - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, September 25, 2010

Narconon Freedom Center currently has an 'F' rating by the Better Business Bureau and for good reasons. There are multiple complaints here on ripoffreport and on the internet. I wish people would look before they shell out $30,000 average for this infamous program.

The internet is filled with critical information on this and the other Narconon facilities. First and foremost, it is run based upon Scientology practices, which one is never told before signing up and paying all that money. These practices range from odd to dangerous. No medication of any type is allowed so it's cold-turkey for the addict or alcoholic. The sauna detox part of the program is dangerous, especially for those with Diabetes or liver problems. The 'student' must take increasingly larger amounts of vitamins while on it and the toxicity levels are hiugh conpared to the US recommended daily allowances. Since there are no licensed or skilled medical personnel on site to begin with ( another of their promised lies ), people becoming ill have to fight to be able to get appropriate medical care while on it. Sadly, there have been suicides at some of ther programs because of the difficult withdrawal procedure.

Secondly, the program is anti-psychology, so there is no mental health therapy prvided, despite all the promises the Narconon intake ( from all facilities ) people tell you. One is not allowed to talk about their problems or the issues they have had leading up t and triggering their addiction behaviors. Matter of fact, no one is allowed to talk to other students about the program as well and student are instructed to rat out each other for doing so or for any critical statements made about Narconon, Scientology or L Ron Hubbard ( who wrote the materials used in the program.) One sits supervised at a shared table and works at reading and writing responses to scientology secularized materials ( same stuff, different cover). One has to pass the steps to proceed. It is torture for some who must go along with this against their own better judgement, just to finish and get out of the place. Especially the Ethics part, wheere one has to write confessions  related to drugs and more so if it is found that the person is found to be wavering in the program or is critical in any way. Those confessions are often used as leverage against the person, especially oif a loved one is trying to get them out of the program. Narconon program requires the person disconnect from that person, stating that the person is suppressing their progress, so be cautious in expressing your opposition to him/her being on the program.

Thirdly, one's incoming or outgoing calls are scrutinized or tapped illegally in most cases. If your loved one is saying things abut the program, you will get a call from a staff member trying to minimize what was said, or flatly deny what was said. Often they will tell you  "it's the addiction talking'. Trust me, there are many who wished they had not bought with the staff was saying because they would have gotten the loved one out sooner.

Any rehab can have safety issues. Licensing is a big issue, as there is only one Narconon facility in the US that is CARF certified, and that is Arrowhead. Somehow the state of MI allowed this program but I suggest you contact the state licensing division regarding complaintrs and requirements. I know that Narconon, like other programs, have issues at time of with people bringing in drugs, or staff sleeping with patients. Narconon is no exception. When the person is begging to be let out, don't disbelieve the things they say about the program. It is al alternative one and unlike any other. Goodle Scientology and 'ash tray'. Forcing someone to do these drills is cruel. You must weigh the situation to determine if the addict is just trying to get out of rehab or if he is is a bad program.

Narconon has a history which never seems to get corrected for very long. The program itself is designed to make a drug-free new scientologist but they falsify their success rate. It's about 6-20% success, not 76-90 as the different websites claim.

Then there is the Scientology issue: I think this is thew biggest safety issue outside of a badly run facility. Scientology is a cult. Narconon-exposed site explains the program and the scientology connection and why it is a dangerous program. Mary McConnell has a blog about Scientlogy and Narconon. Narconon info

AUTHOR: Narconon=Scientology - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, September 25, 2010

Narconon is a controversial international drug treatment program based on the philosophy and theories of L. Ron Hubbard a science fiction writer and founder of Scientology who appears to have been unqualified and ignorant of basic medical facts.

Narconon's ties to Scientology are not disclosed to its clients who are making a decision on drug treatment at a vulnerable time in their lives. Scientologists are employed by the centers and its doctrines and organization are similar to Scientology.

Critics claim that Narconon is simply a front group with a purpose for making money and recruiting new members for Scientology.

There are several good blogs and sites to get additional information about Narconon. Here are a few:
