I received a letter in the mail from 24ProtectPlus that said I agreed to a membership and they billed me $24.95. I called them back and spoke a woman named Tee on the phone. She was very rude and refused to address that I did not agree or sign up for any membership with them. She claims I clicked on something on the Internet and therefore agreed. Um, no? I asked to speak to a supervisor and at first she was rude and refused but eventually she just put me on hold for a long time. I canceled to prevent any future recurring charges.

I then called my credit card and logged it as an unauthorized transaction. They also canceled to prevent future recurring charges which can happen with these types of scams. Looking up "24ProtectPlus" on the web shows that plenty of people seem to have gotten charged with recurring charges and that they did not authorize being billed in the first place or agreeing to membership so this does appear to be a scam and, I would think, very illegal?

I filed a report with the FTC, the BBB and now also RipOffReport. Hopefully, some company will be able to look into the fraudulent business practices of 24ProtectPlus and get it stopped. I don't know if I'll get the $24.95 returned to me and sure it's not that much money, but I don't think it's wise to encourage this level of poor business practices from any company by not doing anything about it. It's just wrong to scam people and rip them off like this.

Update: Refunded!

AUTHOR: ihatescams - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, December 02, 2009

I was able to get a refund or at least a written promise of a refund.

Initially, when I talked to Tee on the phone, she was was rude and refused to address the fact that I had not signed up for any membership with this company. I told her I would call my credit card and log this as an unauthorized transaction and that I would file a report with the BBB. She continued to be rude. I asked to speak to a supervisor. After initially refusing, she eventually agreed but then put me on hold for a long time.

I then called my credit card company. They recommended that I cancel membership immediately with the company. I told them I had already done that. They also put in a request for that as well and marked it as an unauthorized transaction.

I then filed a report for fraud with the FTC and the BBB because I read other reports at RipOff Report and other sites where people have been getting nailed for charges by this company. Interestingly, it's for a variety of amounts. I'm glad that I did stop recurring charges from happening because it looks like others have had problems with that. Don't put up with companies doing this because it will only encourage it. It's wrong, illegal, and should be stopped.

Today, I received the following email from them - it's ridiculous that they would have even written that they hoped my experience was a positive one for a membership I had never agreed to or wanted:

This email confirms that a refund/credit of $24.95 was processed for your 24Protect Plus membership. Please note that you will see your refund on one of your next two statements, depending on your billing cycle.

We thank you for your interest in 24Protect Plus, and we hope your membership experience was a positive one.

Sincerely,
