I had another competitor's quote for $2100.00 Aamcos Arlington Hts, IL branch suggested a price to rebuild Mazda transmission at between $1500-$1900 but they needed to take down trans to see the exact nature of repairs needed. They said a "basic rebuild" would be $1545. Quote came back at $2379. At this early point I was already "stuck" with Aamco as I would have had to pay the $595 + $85 towing to take my car elsewhere. After a few "extra" charges my
final bill was $2796.05, $696 over my competitive estimate and $896 over Aamco's up-front "guesstimate".
What a poor consumer model of locking customer in to the quote and then piling on charges. At the time I was
there another customer was in the process of suing Aamco because he had paid for three repairs and his trans was still not working properly. It's a wonder this dealer doesn't spend the majority of his time in court!

If they can get more money out of you they will.Think about, they are not going to charge you 600 bucks and then find something small wrong with it,it never happens that way.Once you have ok'd them to pull it out your pretty much stuck. The day any mechanic charges less than they thought it would be,I'm going to fall over dead.Your only hope is education, learn your car,yes i know it's not easy.
Good luck with your problem.
