Due to their delay with students and a lot of mistakes i caught in emails, i determined that their inconstancies would affect my pay. I knew this would cause issues with completing hours and as a full time college student, i do not have time for their errors and whatnot.

I emailed them saying i wanted them to resolve me of my contract because i knew i would not make the hours due to their delay. Im sending back the laptop and wasted gas money and testing money for this dumb job. I think now they will try to charge me money for uncompleted hours but i will not pay them a dime and will seek professional help if i need to.

I wish we had the ability to connect.  There are too many of us being scammed by Academic Advantage.  Will anybody take up this cause and get a massive suit going?  I have experienced the same treatment.  And I've documented everything, call it prior experience that has not gone wasted.  I have recently been told that all my hours, 62, have been "docked" meaning they do not plan to pay me.  That comes out to more than $1,000.  There are so many aspects about this deal that in hindsight are just too fishy and shady to add up to an honest business venture.  Like you, I was very suspicious about their looseness with our information.  Let me tell you what I know:

1.  The orientation was hurried and did not prepare us properly with understanding how to proceed with paper work.

2.  The "required paperwork packet" is dubiously assembled, and buries very important procedural information in disorganized and inaccessible format.  For example: the required paperwork is given, but doesn't include the real required paperwork for all hours beyond the Pre-test hours, (which is about 90 percent of reportable hours).  That form is merely mentioned in one sentence amidst page 21 entitled "Proof of Test" sheet.  So, a page is dedicated to the Proof of Test required form which is only used once per client, whereas barely any mention is made of the more important required sign-in sheet, which is dubiously not included in the orientation package, and only emailed to you later.  As I found out from a rep, whom I will not mention.  The emails they send often have difficulties with hotmail and yahoo, so if you have not received the email with the required sign-in sheet, you would never know it, and all your paperwork would be null and void, and you would not be paid for your work.

3.  There is no avenue for pursuing your greivance.  The company deeply protects all directors and employs know-nothings to barricade anybody from being responsible to the tutors.

4.  Flatly refuse to make principal's names and numbers available.  Regardless of the ethical and legal requirement, they will not put you through to the COO, CEO, CFO.  By the way, I think the COO is Jeff Pointek.  OOps, someone spilled after I told him "It's the law, you have to tell me."  Also, the owners are brothers, Mark and Michael.  They will not come forward, but have instructed their people to never put people through; not even to their voicemail or secretary.

5.  Julie Celes is heavily protected from responsibility as well.

6.  I was asked to hand over way too much information over email.  That was a pink flag.  Should be upgraded to a red flag on second thought.

7.  After several weeks and relayed messages, voice messages, the person in charge of payments has refused to get back to me; when I finally got through, she denied getting any messages.  I left voice messages, so this is just unprofessional, unethical lying behavior.  I was told by another that she is not very responsive to voicemail and I had better email her.  I told her, she had better call me back in a half hour, or else I'd be going to a lawyer.  She called back.

8.  The worst of it is that this company uses the excuse that School districts whom hold the contracts, will not pay them, unless everything is in perfect order.  Yet, when the paperwork is submitted to Academic Advantage, if it is not in perfect order, they will not even submit it to the district.  So the district can not even corroborate their own purported policy, because they never see paperwork for which they could reject. They aren't given the opportunity to review because Academic Advantage keeps it.  It's a scheme!  They are making independent tutors jump through impossible hoops and refusing to pay.  They make their policies sufficiently opaque, so tutors make inevitably make mistakes, or operate in the dark, and then refuse payment, while they collect a full payment from districts, because they do in fact submit the paperwork, and districts do in fact pay the company.  It's a scam.
