Note:  This ripoff report is for Adair Mechanical, which is a division of Adair Solar and Plumbing.  I've used Adair Solar and Plumbing in the past, and have been very happy with their service, and would recommend their services.

However, I would NOT recommend Adair Mechanical.  They initially called us with a special offer for a seasonal HVAC tune-up of $39.95.  Because we were happy with Adair Solar and Plumbing's other divisions' service, we agreed to have them come out.  By the time they left, we had a $614 bill.  I was skeptical about the work performed and charges, so I went into the attic and checked their work.

I found that the parts listed (2 capaciters) on the invoice were not the same brand as they installed (although they were legitimate replacement parts).  Furthermore, they charged $278 for the capacitors.  I checked the retail cost of the capacitors on the internet, and for the same capacitors, they ran $8 low to $17 high for each.  The service Tech spent about 1.5 hours at our house, and the service charge was $250 (to clean the evap coils, install the capacitors, etc.).  When I called the manager to ask about the charges, his response was that they had to make a profit.  I asked him what their hourly service rate was, and he replied it was $100/hour.

At $100/hour at 1.5 hours, that should be $150, not $250.  $34 retail parts cost vs. $278 charge?  I'd say that's a darn good profit!  I would have been fine with reasonable charges and a little additional profit of around $300, but $614?  That's ridiculous.  I would NOT recommend the Adair Mechanical division of Adair Solar and Plumbing to anyone.
