You think buying from Alltel is bad?? Well let me tell ya... try working for them. I'm sure it can't be like this everywhere or they'd have absolutely NO employees left. I once worked for Alltel. Reason I'm submitting this is to just give you an insiders look at what conditions these sales reps work under.

As an alltel employee... you are required to be d**n near perfect in everything you do... mistakes are not allowed. You must be expected to work very long hours and have very little time with your family (mind you, we are told that Alltel is a family oriented company).

You work short staffed for most of the time you are employed which means... even less time to spend with family. You are threatened with termination each and every day. You are "held responsible and accountable" each and every day and reminded of this several times throughout the day.

You are lucky if you get to eat a lunch, grab a drink or even use the restroom. You are expected to hold every customer for at least ten minutes and try to sell them everything under the sun... even a "regular" just paying a bill gets the third degree each and every month.

You have so much internal stress that you go home to your family after an 9-12 hour day at work and can't relax... you're worried about what you might have forgotten to do that day and will be wrote up the next day about. You are not allowed to voice your opinion... if you do... expect a write up because eventually it will come.

I loved my job... did very well at it in fact. Was the top sales rep in my store each and every month. Had customers who loved me and a few that hated me. That's sales and I dealt with it. Unethical practices made me start to hate my job.

Upon every activation, you are "encouraged" to apply both text messaging as well as mobile web services to gain the data quota required. You are to "explain and demonstrate" to every customer what you have just slammed their account with.

Then, you are to remind them that next month... they need to call and remove the feature themselves or they will be billed for it. We are not however, expected to explain to them that even though the promotion is first month free... they will still be billed a pro-rated amount for those "free" features.

So, in comes my customer that I spent a good deal of time with gaining confidence and trust... madder than a hornet because the bill is no where near what they anticipated. FRUSTRATING for both the customer and the sales rep.

With the emphasis on data... we are expected to push the data enhanced phones such as the Treo, etc. even though in my area where I sold, those phones do not perform well and had low reception. For telling my customers the truth... I was, of course, given a "record of converstation" to be put in my permanent file.

Lastly... our managers. They walk around the store greeting customers and detaining them but not really helping them or the sales reps do much of anything. I'm sure not all managers are like this... but mine sure was.

By the time I'd get a customer who had been waiting for some time... there was no way in h*ll I was gonna offer him/her a $90.00 bluetooth device or ask him/her to add on text messaging. Generally, it was all I could do to even obtain a HI or smile from that customer who stood there for 40 minutes wanting to know how to set up voicemail and the manager just blew off.

I could go on and on for hours... but the moral of the story is... we're human too. We're treated like crap and are expected to do things that go above and beyond. As you go into your local Alltel store mad and upset... please remember that these sales reps are under alot of stress. They are pretty good people... God, you'd have to be d**n near a saint to work there... and they are trying to make a living. Be a bit sympathtic... and given the right relationship, I'd wager to say 99% of them will bend over backwards to help you in anyway possible...

Thanks for listening.

threatened to be fired??

AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 14, 2008

i also worked for customer service.

i had a co-worker that fell behind on EVERY kpi. Keep in mind, ALL kpi's.

i coached her a couple times and i remember her cph were under 8, features and accessories under $3 (combined), transfer rates above and beyond 25%, and they STILL have not fired her.

maybe its just the management that needs to be changed at the retail stores.

and although it must be very very hard to note EVERY single account since there are many customers in the stores, it would be nice (as Marie mentioned) if the accounts were notated with at least some words of changes.

It is true that Alltel threatens your job all the time. They never tell you to do something without that "if you don't you'll get fired." And they fire employees like it's nothing, like these people don't need to pay bills. I worked for Alltel for 5 years in customer care. Twice or even three times a day, you go over your stats, transfer rate, calls per hour, accessory sales, feature sales, etc.... You have a quota to fulfill and if you don't don't meet your quota in a three month period, you get a written, if you get 3 writtens in a year, you are fired. Ok, that may sound reasonable to some, but say you get 2 writtens for not having enough calls per hour, so you boost your calls per hour, however, your sales drop dramatically so you get a written for that and you are fired. It's like they expect the impossible. I often told my supervisor that the company needs to decide on which 2 or 3 things to focus on, but to threaten your job by not being perfect in every single thing you do, is just unfair. They have a jerk that knows next to nothing in charge of all the call centers. He is a moron that knows nothing about customer care. Oh, and if you happen to get an accessory in the mail that you didn't order, it's probably from an employee who's job has just been threatened for not selling enough accessories. If you want to keep your sanity and don't want stress in your life, stay away from Alltel, they are the worst employers of all.

I can back that up

AUTHOR: James - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, August 20, 2007

Hey Sarah, throtle back a bit would you, you have tried responding to every complaint on here it seems and Im sure Alltel is about to make you a manager or something, congrats! Its the hard core truth what he wrote about, every bit to a t. I slaved away in a retail store for four years, only to get fired over some made up crap because I wouldn't force text messaging on people and lie about the price of prepaid phones to customers to stuff accessories sales in without their knowledge. I filed for unemployment, received it, Alltel fought it and it went to court, guess what...Alltel lost because they were in the wrong and had no proof to support the claim they made....because it was a lie. Alltel is the worst company in the world, I have many more stories.

Oh cry me a river

AUTHOR: Sarah - (U.S.A.)

Please!! I work for alltel too, I do not love the company but come off it!!! I work in customer service and I agree with some of your points like the selling thing as customer service is required to do it as well, but that is sales like you said it comes with the job. Alltel has awesome benefits for medical and there vaction time is more than fair. You do not have to be any where near perfect, I know this to be fact because I fix retail stores mistakes everyday and none of them are fired for it. that person would have to make sevral of the same mistakes over and over again and then you will get a written warning, and if you keep making the same mistakes then you may be fired. Insted of complaining about it why don't you find a better job that siuts you.

By the way if you guys would just note the accounts when you do a change it would make life easier when the customer calls in the next time because you messed up there rate plan change. Thanks a bunch!!
