I had fallen behind on my car note by a fw months due to a job loss. I stayed in touch and paid what I could, when I could until I found a job. I then made arrangements to pay a little extra every month until my notes were caught up.

Everything was fine until three days ago. I mailed a payment which didn't arrive right on time (it was a day late). They began calling while I was at work and could not answer. They called 4 times in 4 hours. I finally answered and the lady on the phone asked me why I mailed the payment and told me that I need to make a payment by phone today.

They could not seem to understand that I already sent one check, I can't afford to add another payment to that right at that moment. I was then placed on hold for an unreasonable amount of time. I almost hung up (because I'm still at work) when a supervisor came on line and lectured me about the importance of paying my bills on time and being responsible.

Keep in mind, I WAS holding up to the arrangements that I had made before but the check was one day late. I was told, like someone else on here, that mailing a check takes too long and that I needed to make my payments online or over the phone. I told the woman that I only have internet access in public places and I'm not going to put my credit card info into a computer at the library. If mailing a payment is so wrong then why do they mail me a bill with a return envelope?

Fast forward 7 more days and they have recieved the last payment that I mailed in and it's time for another phone call. Yes, I am still a little behind but still paying more than my monthly payment to get caught up. This time they called my sister in law at home to leave a message for me because I didn't answer the one phone call I recieved an hour before because I was (again) AT WORK. They didn't even hive me a chance to return the message!

And I'm still not totally sure how they got her number or how they even knew we were related because her phone number is brand new and she's not listed on the loan application. It was humiliating. I am shocked at Ally's practices and my next vehicle will probably be a Hyundai or something. No more GM products for me.

Unless you have dealt w them I don't think you should knock anyone. Ally is Horrible. They don't try to work with you, they harass you, you try to send them a message because their wait time is always forever and you get a robot response that doesn't make sense to what you said. They could care less about you just about stacking up the charges. I wish the dealer would have just went through my bank like I had asked.

With your attitude...

You are VERY lucky that your car has not been repossessed yet and you should be on your knees to Ally thanking them for that.

First of all with just about every single finance company if you are a "few" months behind they will reposess your car.  With some lenders if you are even as little as a week late they will reposess your car.  It appears that not only were you at least a couple of months behind..you are STILL behind.  Yet you complain when your payment is (surprise) once again late that they are calling you.

As for sending the payment by mail.  Of course there is nothing wrong with it..but you must make sure that it arrives on time.  This means that in general you need to mail your payment about 7-10 days BEFORE the due date to make sure it arrives on-time.

I also think it is hillarious that you refuse to put your CC information on a computer.  Do you realize that you are many more times likely to be a victim of Identity Theft through a Check.  After all what does a check have on it.  Well it has your name, address, bank account number and your signature.  More than enough for any thief to grab and not only take your identity but wipe out your bank account..with little to no recourse.   What does a CC have..well it has a number and your name.  If it is a true CC then you have rights that will not hold you responsible for any fradulent purchase.  If it is a Debit Card most banks extend that same right.

Oh and you are dreaming if you think that Hyundai would treat you any different..if you could even get approved for them to begin with.   Because it is very likely that you have at least a few delinquent marks on your credit report.  Meaning your next loan is going to be with a Sub-Prime lender.   And if you think Ally is rough on you wait until you find out that the finance company is going to require a GPS device on your car that also has the ability to disable your car if you are even just a couple of days late.

Late Means LATE!

AUTHOR: Jim - ()

Anytime you are late, you turn on the COLLECTORS calls.  In your scenario, you were late and they accepted the payment arrangement.  Then you were late with one of the arranged payments.  Because of that, they are getting a bit antsy.
