Like many others, we have several "hits" on our credit report from American Agencies or American AGC Agencies. They continue to add more and more "collections" on our credit report but send us no information that we owe anything. We found out when we went to refinance our home.

The mortgage company wanted us to pay it off before they would complete the loan. When we investigated further, we did not know if this collection was even valid. We called American Agencies to get more information and they said they would send us a copy of the bill or charges.

We have not received anything and according to the Fair Credit Reporting Act, if they do not provide the documentation, then the debt can not be collected on. However, the problem is how you get it off your credit report.

It is unfair that these agencies are allowed to do fradulent business and our whole livelihood depends on them (since credit runs most parts of your life). Here is a site from the BBB that gave more info on the agency:

Cleaning up your Credit Report

AUTHOR: Tammy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, April 29, 2005

Jenny,

I know your frustration.

Send a certified return receipt letter to american ACG Agencies asking for proof the debt is yours and give them a date to have it to you.

Have you had the credit reporting agencies investigate these 'fraudulent' entries? If now, contact the credit reprting agency which shows the incorrect entries and let them know you don't believe they are yours.

Experian: 888-397-3742
Equifax: 888-766-0008
Trans Union: 800-916-8800

By federal law they have 30 days to investigate and contact you back. If they find it to be yours, they will send you the companies contact information.

If you can not get it straightend out with the company contact the Federal Trade Commission at 877-FTC-HELP and file a complaint. And they can also give you the number to your state's Consumer Affairs office to file a complaint.

I hope this helps!
