Like a million other young women, I filled out one of those cheesy boxes last year
to learn about UOP online and was immediately contacted by Mr. Ryan Cunningham
and filled full of glorious bull about how good the school was and everything. I
was told I was going to basically be treated like a one on one student and very
special. I was promised that I was going to be walked through the classes and
any help I needed I was going to receive. I didnt worry, because I was told
basically that all the exams at UOP are open book, so there wouldnt be a lot
of pressure on writing too much.
I kept really good notes on this because I wanted to talk it over with my
father who was told that the FAFSA commitment I had would cover everything based
on my income at the time. I had to slow down and think about it because of home
issues, was made to feel like I was dumb by this person because I was not
getting all the information and I simply told him that I wanted to think about
it to make sure it was right for me.
So this year filled out the more information and within 10 seconds of me
clicking yes the d**n phone rang and it was Mr. Ryan Cunningham again to tell
me all about Axia online UOP program. Now a 20 month Assoc. in Accounting
program was going to cost me with online books $18,000.00. My GRANTS were again
going to cover all but a few hundred dollars of this money he was pretty sure ,
he just couldn't find his cheat sheet on it. So he couldn't give me an accurate
amount. He kept pressuring me to get signed up for class sent me the e-mail to
fill out the application and gave me the code for my FASFA for them to look at
it and that was it. (NOT MY CODE THERE CODE)Said he was going to hold an
imaginary seat for me in a class. I said ok.
After looking things over again and seeing the light the comm. college here
offers classes by the hour not the block and I could almost have a bachelor's
for what they want for an assoc. ( I am getting 13 credit hours for $1,444.95)
I decided not to bother with axia or apollo or UOP and got enrolled in school
and filled out all my stuff for community college online locally.
Well later he calls and gets snarky with me because I didn't return his calls
that he was calling 2x a day for two weeks and not leaving a message. I
politely said I was enrolled in school and was busy doing all the paperwork for
that and did not have time.(I have two kids and a husband as well.) He
continued to get more angry with me and so I hung up.
Last year I was a bad person because I had family issues to prevent me and this
year I found a cheaper way to go. Now I know with my grants it would have only
knocked off this year with a higher FASFA rating about $1100.00, so $16,900
would be in student loans.
So this punk has lied to me from the get go about everything. And I hope he
lost his bonus or whatever he missed out on because I was not sucked in by his
lies. If I get another phone call from him or that group of idiots it had
better be only to apologize to me for treating me like I was an uneducated
moron and for being rude, pushy and uncaring. Yes he even tried to relate to me
about a family crisis I had. HOW CAN YOU GO TO WORK KNOWING WHAT YOU DO ??
If you are a student who depends on financial aid to attend college...stay FAR
away from this university! They have told me differing stories and lies
regarding my financial aid over the past two semesters and NO one at the school
can keep their story and facts straight. I had repeatedly asked the school if I
would receive my financial aid to pay for my recent semester and was assured
that I would...then all of a sudden they tell me that I am not eligible for
financial aid and are sticking me with a bill for tuition. If they had been
honest and told me that there was even a remote chance that I could not receive
aid to pay for the semester, I would NOT have enrolled! Yet, they wait to tell
me that I cannot get aid until I have been past the time for any refund or drop
dates, ensuring that they can bill me for tuition! This school is loaded with
scammers that work for the financial aid department!
My advice....stay far away unless you wanna pay dearly! I have kept all
evidence of emails from the financial aid department that demonstrates their
misrepresentation to me regarding financial aid and it is sad to see how their
many different excuses and explanations regarding financial aid completely
contradict the schools own financial aid policies that can be found within
their handbook! The school is now totally ignoring all of my emails to them
that point out their misrepresentation of course, and I now know that they have
lied to me in order to make their profits at my expense. I have read other
reports regarding this schools financial aid nightmares as well as reviews for
online schools from other students who have been put into the same boat as I am
in. I really think that this school should be investigated and that a lawsuit
should be brought against them on behalf of all the students that have been
lied to by the financial aid department!
So I didnt go to UOP and instead decided to go to I have attended American
Military University for about a year with fairly good results as far as
professors are concerned. However, dealing with my financial/academic advisors at
American Military University has been a pain staking process. They do not
return calls, respond to emails, nor do they have the knowledge about
procedures that they should have. Any time I had to change my schedule they
would completely screw everything up!
I had problems in my last course due to an illness, which I brought to my
professors attention as soon as it started to become a problem, she directed me
to my academic advisor and suggested that I request an "I" which
means that I would be granted additional time to complete my course.
When discussing this possibility with my advisor, he had never heard of it and
stated that the only thing I could do would be to drop out of the course. (What
a bunch of bull) It clearly states in the hand book that this is a viable
solution. Anyway, I continued to try and complete my assignments as best as
possible until my final.
I emailed my teacher that Sunday (Day seven, last day of the course) and
explained that I was very ill and that I could not complete my final by
midnight. I was then admitted in the hospital and was not released for several
days. Upon my release I called my professor to explain my situation and she
told me that her hands were tied; I should once again contact my advisor.
I followed her instructions and once again I'm not getting any help. However
they did make it clear that they do not excuse finals for ANY REASON! My only
alternative would be to retake the course, at my expense!! I have submitted my
medical documents to prove my case but evidently thats not good
enough. To see what I submitted so you can decide for yourself,

I'm sorry, but I have never heard of a school not allowing students to make up
finals based on documented medical reasons!! I would have passed this course in
spite of my illness causing a few late assignments had it not been for the
final. Moreover, I have never received below a "B" in any of my other
6 courses. I want nothing more than to transfer to a more respectable
university.
If you do decide to apply at this university make sure that you are not late on
your assignments (for any reason), don't make any changes to your schedule and
don't expect to have any issues you might have to be resolved in a timely
fashion.
As for me, I might have to complete my Associates with American Military
University but I will not continue my education with them. Oh, and by the way, American
Military University is very over-priced; especially for the service you
receive. After researching other universities I could have gotten the same
degree for 1/2 of the price. This makes me absolutely sick.
As far as I am concerned, I wasted my money. For a complete detail of my
experience, including the lawsuit I am filing against the American Military
University, download a copy of my paperwork and see for yourself.
