Angie's List Disappointed in Advertising, Internet

We were contacted by an Angie's List rep with "good news" that our company received positive feedback which earned us an 'A' in their rankings-which, IS good news. 

However, they said we would be listed at the bottom of multiple pages of clientele reviews and might never be seen. 

Here is the catch - this person offered an "opportunity to hedge our bets" by essentially PAYING for our name to pop up first on their review list and sent advertising rate quotes. (which, by the way are VERY high!!) 

www.angieslist.com  boasts that contractors  "cannot pay to show up at the top of the List for every search under any setting."  

A few things consumers can do for FREE to check credibility/quality of any contractor is: review local public records for lawsuits, contact BBB, ask for referrals from the contractors' vendors, check validity of current Licensure/Bond/Insurance thru county/ govt offices, and just plain do their homework!!  

The unfortunate truth is.....that there are bad apples in each industry. But I feel Angie's List is playing the fear card with deceptive advertising.  Consumers shouldn't have to pay for altered information nor contractors pay to jockey for position like advertising on a search engine.
