Anthony Berholtz contractor from hell

We have a $29,000 contract with Anthony Berholtz for a kitchen and bath remodeling project. Mr. Berhotlz stated that he is a licensed contractor, which he is not.

The original contract was for work to be complete in 6 weeks, three weeks upstairs and three weeks downstairs. A third of the money was given up front (for almost $10,000).

Work did commence, but after the kitchen and bathroom were torn out completely, it stopped. Tony then expected the next check for $10,000(which was to be given on a date as opposed to work complete), which I gave to him.

After several days passed and no more work was completed, I put a stop payment on the check. After several threatening phone calls from Tony, I sat down with him and re-wrote the contract, and gave him another $5,000. Some work was done, and I have bought an additional $1,000 that the contractor was responsible for, but was essential for the continuation of work.

Tony verbally agreed to pay the money back (I have saved the messages on my phone). Tony then brought a different work crew in. It has now been eight weeks (two weeks past the new contract's completion date), and I have neither a functional kitchen or bathroom.

The new workers have destroyed several items, such as the tub and several cabinets. They have done additional damage to the house by destroying a good portion of brickwork around teh windows and a section of fence. Workers have not come in for a week and I have recieved no call backs from the contractor.
