Balford's Driving School is run by a Jamaican family. Balford Lindsay is the owner of this questionable business. Because of the auto insurance business in Ontario, Canada, most insurance companies require young drivers to take some form of a driver's education. Unfortunately, there really is no government governing body that regulates the curriculum taught at these courses. I am reporting this particular driving school because it is the one I used.

Here we go, Balford Lindsay talks about everything but, driving an car, when he teaches his courses. He is one of the most popular driving schools in the city because of his cheap rates. He is a very underqualified man, with regards to any type of formal education.

When he took me for some in-car lessons, he fell asleep in the passenger seat. I had to slam on the breaks to wake him up. He yells at other drivers on the road, and he plays loud reggae music while you are driving in the car. All of the multiple choice tests he distributes to the class penciled in answers. This is so that no one fails the written portion of the lessons. He often seemed overly enthusiastic to talk about how some woman had been accusing him of stalking her. He denies her claims and says this woman is out to get him.

He brags about how he sued the city for hurting his back while driving over a pot-hole in the road. He apparently won this case in small claims court. He also had the city pay repairs for his vehicle.

In conlucion, Balfor Lindsay is a terrible driving instructor, and your money is better spent elsewhere.

Balford Lindsay uses illegal drugs (marijuana).

AUTHOR: Matt - (Canada)

POSTED: Wednesday, April 28, 2010

Balford Lindsay was caught smoking marijuana in his car, not too long ago. Not sure if he was teaching a student or he was on his own time; but do you want a pot head teaching you how to drive?

Balford's Driving School

AUTHOR: Balford - (Canada)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 11, 2008

This is a reply to Nick from Hamilton Ontario, Canada.

Firstly I was not aware that Nick has posted a false report on the internet, until several students called and alert us about this. This apparently have been on the internet for quite along time. The students that brought this to my attention said when they saw it they thought some disgruntled student or their parents did this, and because they know me better, this was just wrong.

Well Nick was right about one thing Balford's Driving School is the most popular Driving School, I wouldn't say we are the cheapest I've never done a survey to substantiate that, but last year we were voted #1 That's Number one Driving School in Hamilton by our students in the Hamilton Readers Choice Award.

What Nick did not share with the public was the fact that when he called the Diving School and booked my car for a road test, upon completion of the test he reused to pay me for my time and the use of my car for his test, I had to Sue him in Small Claims Court to get my money, he then called me trying to get me to take money from him for the road test. I declined and told him to go pay the court which includes court cost.

His girlfriend also took the course from us but did not complete the said course on time, as set out by the Ministry Of Transportation. I called her and notified her that she had One week to complete the course or no Certificate will be issued, she had a lot of excuses but no results.

One year later showed up she would like to pick up the certificate, I told her she had not completed the course and therefore was not eligible for a Certificate, so she should contact the Ministry Of Transportation for further guidance. She made a lot of threats, this is how I'm being re-payed for upholding the rules the Ministry set fourth for all schools to follow, and I did not even had to remind his girlfriend that her time was running out. To make matters worse when she came for her certificate she pretended she had completed the course, until I caught it. So for Nick it was 2 strikes and you're out, he's bitter but dishonesty should never prevail.

So Nick is clearly a fraud, He tries to make me look bad that's why on should hear both sides of a story, my name Speaks For Itself. Remember last year 22 driving schools were kicked out by the Ministry for not completing with the rules & regulations set fourth, 4 of those schools are from Hamilton. Some people are not BIG on honesty especially when it's related to them directly. Nick and his girlfriend played a game and lost through faults of their own, we shouldn't be blamed.

I do understand anyone reading his report might believe him because they don't know me but my other students do. I do not use my computer regularly so I tend to miss things like this, my computer is used mainly for typing things related to the business. This is a true report.

Balford does his job

AUTHOR: Davepitman - (Canada)

POSTED: Tuesday, April 22, 2008

I just finished the course in which Balford taught. After reading the claims being made against him, I dont know what to say. Balford is an extremely friendly man who talks to his students as they wish to speak. If someone does not want to talk, he respects that. He is a great driver as well, I learned many things from him and recieved my g2 right after the course ended.

The only way I can see someone not getting along with Balford is if they treated him poorly. He is not the kind of person who would treat anyone poorly when meeting them.

I fully reccommend Balfords Driving School.

Caveat Emptor, but to a certain extent

I have taken Mr. Balford Lindsay's driving class and while I do admit his in-class lessons can use a bit of work, I doubt you did anything to rectify or point out any inconveniences, discrepancies, or wrongdoing. You could have asked for another question sheet because yours had the answers penciled in. They would have printed another one off for you gladly. Not only that I doubt he spends his spare time penciling in the answers just so his sudents can pass.

As for the in-car lessons, Mr. Lindsay is, as anyone who as part of their job deals with people on a daily basis, amicable and likes to talk to his students. The mention in this report of the subject of conversation between yourself and Mr. Lindsay is as irrelevant as the colour of socks I am wearing right now. You simply could have asked Mr. Lindsay turn off the radio or to cease from conversation that is impertinant to the lesson. As for him falling asleep during your lesson, if you felt that your life was endangered in any which way, you could have simply switched to another driving school. Also, the manner in which you claimed to have waken him up is unsafe.

Currently there is no way of determining who is the best driving instructor in the city and I can say that while he is not the very best, he is most certainly not the very worst. I beleive that you will receive excellent instruction at Balford's Driving School; Mr. Lindsay will try to ensure that you pass his class and the G1 Exit Test, but alot of it is up to you the client to ensure that you are receiving the proper training and to bring up anything that you are unsure or uncertain of. On top of all that, he is one hell of a musician. Ask him to bring one of his CD's to the classroom. He will not disapppoint. I reccomend Memories of Her Love.
