I first contacted Brian Cardozo off a Craigslist ad he posted on October 28, 2013.  His ad stated he is a "boat transport service" and gave a number.  I called him to inquire about shipping a drill rig which needed to go from Virginia to Seattle.  He seemed personable and responsive and quoted me a price ($2,900) which was less than the rate I had previously been quoted by another shipping broker.  We discussed the rig's dimensions and the fact that if the rig was not shipped on a drop-deck trailer, it could result in over-height fees.  I believed that Brian would move on this very quickly as he said he thought he could get a truck there in the next few days.

He did promptly arrange for the rig to be transported by an independent trucking company, Northwest Trans Inc. and we instructed our agent, Rhett Higgins of Higgins Rig Co., to wire-transfer escrow funds of $2,900 to Mr. Cardozo's SunTrust Bank account, which they did.  The receiving company name was America's Choice Towing.

Mr. Cardozo never paid the trucking company.  Both I and the trucker attempted to reach him by phone, text and email and I did have one conversation with him in which he stated he had been in an accident, had lost his phone but would be taking care of paying the trucking company so that my load could be released.  At this point, the trucker had arrived in Seattle but would not deliver the rig to the dock until he received payment.  That was the last time Mr. Cardozo could be contacted.

Because we had to make a shipping date (to Alaska) of November 1st, it was imperative that the rig be delivered to the dock by Wed., October 30th.  Mr. Cardozo still had not transmitted the funds to the shipper, which had now increased by $600 for over-height permit fees as Mr. Cardozo failed to instruct the trucker of the need for a drop-deck trailer, per our discussion.  We had to pay the trucking company $3,500 directly in order to have the load delivered (this included the additional over-height and loading fees).  We now have a total of $6,400 invested in a transaction that should have cost $2,900.

To date, Mr. Cardozo has not responded to any emails, texts or calls, nor did he ever make the promised payment to the trucker.  We wish to warn other consumers of this fraudulent business operator.

WATCH OUT for Mr. Cardozo's many identities and business names, which include but may not be limited to:

Vehicle Shippers

Hawaii Shippers (this website states that they are a dedicated Matson shipper, however upon contacting Matson directly, they have NO knowledge of Brian Cardozo or any of his companies).  This is a lie.

The Motorcycle Transport Company

Haulingrates.com

ALSO watch for Brian Cardozo on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.  On these social networks, Mr. Cardozo branches out into various other ventures; ex., on Pinterest he pins that he does international boat shipping and provides a weblink - boatsunder.com, which seems to not be connected to him at all, but rather has a IP address out of Germany.  Another weblink pinned is boatshippers.com which doesn't come up at all when typed into a browser (rather is only found on Pinterest).

Mr. Cardozo is a good example of a con artist who tells you what you want to hear, appears helpful and responsive, until he has your money - then you never hear from him again.  Beware!
