I tried to build credit for my future. I had a capital one credit card for a year and made all payments perfectly. Then I was charged extra fees and was unhappy with my service. I had my card and account terminated over the phone and paid all money fee's due to settle my account over the phone at the same time. I was told my account was terminated. 3 months later when I returned from overseas I noticed this absurd account in my credit that stated i had a $60 unpaid bill with capital one for over 2 months. To make a long story short, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY TO BUILD CREDIT!!!! I did and paid all bills on time for a whole year just to have them screw it up and actually make my credit look worse for a fake $60 fee imposed after I closed my account. Extreme rip-off.

And to make matters worse, credit reporting agencies continued to post the false information even after I made them aware that i was ripped off!!! Be very carefull! they all work together to make sure they get your money! Even when you dont owe them! Orchard Bank takes a lot more fees, but atleast they are honest.

Capital One is a great Credit Card

AUTHOR: David - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, May 03, 2010

I dont work for the company but I have a credit card through them since 2004 and I have never had any problems. I also have a auto loan with them and have never had any problems. Youre not giving us too many details, so I have to assume youre not telling the whole story about your account with Capital One.

If you paid your bill on time like you have stated in your report, and I am confused as to the fees you are referring to. If your late with your payment you get charged a fee, if you go over your limit you get charged a fee etc. If you are over your limit and only make the minimum payment, you will still be over your limit when the interest is tacked on to your new bill, so you get charged another over the limit fee. You stated you paid all of your fees by phone, what about the balance?

You damaged your credit the minute you told them to closed your account and Capital One reported it to the Credit Bureaus. Its obvious you didnt check to make sure the account was paid in full by going online to check your account or by calling them the following month after you closed the account and supposedly paid it in full.

I see no rip off here; youre someone who doesnt understand how credit cards work. Its your responsibility to insure your account has been paid in full, not Capital One.

Did you call them?

AUTHOR: all2neat - (United States of America)

Did you try calling them? May be it was a mistake on their part, if it is and you call and talk to a rep may be they will fix it.. Did you have any fees or anything on the card that would have been charged? Some cards have a member fee..

If you are only two months behind it's hardly worth going into collections over $60.. Believe me.. I'm trying to help my wifes credit.. We got married 7 months ago and she has a bunch of small things.. 90 bucks here, 50 bucks there.. they hurt way more than it's worth to not pay it.. I'd try to get them to admit to a mistake and correct your credit or pay the $60 and move on.. On second thought, did you have a balance? When you tell them to terminate your card, a lot of times they will leave the account open but cancel the card itself so no more charges can be made.. If it had a balance on it you wouldn't be able to close the account fully until it cycles.. If that is the case the $60 could have been interest that you owe them.. Just something to look into and ask them.. You may not be getting ripped off. If you are I hope you find resolution.. At least the amount you are talking about is small.. $60 dispute is very easy to work with and worst case scenario you are our a couple movies or a video game :)..
